Spotted on another thread about having a beer thread well here's my two penneth.
I don't like lager bucket pubs and walk out if there's no "levers". My fave tipples are Dizzy Blonde, Owd Slapper and Landlord when I can get it. Although I'm a Boutner I love supping in Wigan. The anvil, Central, Doc's and that place in Jackson arcade all do good ale, perhaps better than my hometown.
In Bolton there's Man and Scythe, one of the oldest pubs in England, that serves a fine pint of Flat Cap and various other brews like Dizzy Blonde and Crop Circle. Down the street is Hogarths, locally known as Hogwarts, which brews it's own ale, somewhat an acquired taste, but there's always one to please!
Round the corner from M & S is Barristers, with its large selection of hand pumped ale.
However the Beer Mecca for me at the mo is Southport. Some marvellous quaffing places, Guest House, Tap and Bottle and Peaky Blinders to name but three!

Blue Boar is a shadow of it's former self unfortunately.SJ wrote:Don't drink Beer any more. I'm a wine drinker and rum and the occasional stout usually Guinness (draft). WW mentioned Bolton. Had some great times in the Blue Boar a brill Irish pub nr the Market. Also the Albion
Steve Sims, former Leigh coach, has two establishments in Bolton, one on the open market, and one in the Market Place new shopping centre, the latter selling good but pricey ale.
