I would quite happily be proved wrong - Sam was worth watching a game for alone - but so was Amos Roberts for a brief period - Sam has to prove that those 2 years when he ran white hot were him as a player - because if you look at his career he has now had more disappointing seasons than goodyokozuna wrote:Think quite a few people are going to be surprised when Sam returns from injury.

Re: Wane on Sam vs Escare
I'm sure Tomkins will return on the bench and after a game will be our starting FB,even though he did very little last year,i agree he should perhaps go out on loan for a month and get some game time to get his match fitness up to scratch,he wont so the idea is a moot one.
I just hope that if this comes to pass we dont lose out on Escare,if the lad can't settle and returns to france then fine but to lose out on him because a player is being kept faith with on what has been rather than what is happening now.
I guess it really is up to Tomkins now.

I for one hope we get to see the Sam of five years ago. If he doesn't recapture some decent form, I hope that doesn't stop Wane from dropping him. I'm abit worried as it seems wane and Sam seem to be very close
Re: Wane on Sam vs Escare
if Wane give sam back the FB role without having to earn it then hes betraying the fans and also going against his own ethics of its not who you are its how you play.
3 years of being injured is along time, its going to take a long time to get back (if he can) to any form.
Escare on the otherhand so far has been a fantastic suprise, and hopefully will only improve, it would be a crime for Sam to come in at FB over Escare currently.
how much is to do with Sam being the Marquee signing, if we don't play him its alot of money going to waste.

These are two reasons not to trust people.
1. We don't know them.
2. We do know them.

Don't see why you would drop Tierney he is turning into a class act since the back end of last season . his defence is greatly improved as well . The try saving tackle against Salford this season was outstanding and showed for a slight guy he has good strength. Wing play isn't just about scoring tries these days .moto748 wrote:With Manfredi a long-term absentee, surely Tierney would be dropped to accommodate Escare on the wing if ST came back at full-back?
Escare offers so much (not least, goal-kicking), plus, with him and ST on the pitch, the option is there to swap positions around during a game if desired.

Time waits for no man. What is being said re-Sam can be said of MM.Wormburner wrote:They must be old credits for Sam as he's done naff all since he's been back, Escare for me any day of the week
Players should always be selected on present form not on a speculative reason of what he once did he could replicate. If the said players can demonstrably show they are fully capable of past glories that the coach can't ignore then they should come into the reckoning provided they are the better options. The old saying if it doesn't need fixing leave it.
Seems to me this is where we are at nothing, yet, requires fixing so only make changes when needed or for tacticalLogistic reasons.
I trust that when the need arises SW will make the right decisions for the benefit of the club. That rules out favouritism

Bringing MM into a discussion about Sam and Escare, you really are obsessed with him aren't you Jim?SJ wrote:Time waits for no man. If you are going to bring MM into the discussion at least make sure you make sense and are correct in what you are saying!
In no way is the MM situation like the Sam situation, MM was playing very good rugby league until his horrific, potentially career ending injury, something some of our 'fans' seem to be forgetting.
Why don't we just wait and see what happens with Sam and MM when they both return before jumping to ridiculous conclusions about both players and their relationship with SW.
I think SW has earned the right to have more respect from us fans than to judge his integrity!!
This post isn't only aimed at you Jim it is aimed at some of the other posters as well.

Re: Wane on Sam vs Escare
Injuries will happen and players will need resting throughout the season.I think it's great that we have strength in depth with Sam and escare and i bet other teams wish they were so lucky.Let's give Sam a chance to show his form and fitness before condemning him to be shipped out on loan.If he does not produce then fine but let's give the lad some playing time,we all want him to do well.

I'm sorry you misunderstand what I'm saying TBW. Perhaps I've not expressed myself very well. In essence I'm saying what your saying but in my own way. No I'm not obsessed with MM (although I believe you could be) I'm not slighting SW ,ST or MM What I am saying is if they are the better players selectable they should be selected and I said I trusted SW would do that. No offence to his integrity at all in fact quite the reverse actually. Sorry mate I didn't wish to rub anyone up in the wrong way.TrueBlueWarrior wrote:Bringing MM into a discussion about Sam and Escare, you really are obsessed with him aren't you Jim?SJ wrote:Time waits for no man. Firstly you relate MM to nearly every thread regarding Wigan team matters so clearly you have the obsession with him.SJ wrote:I'm sorry you misunderstand what I'm saying TBW. Secondly I actually agree with most of your post and that's why I said it's aimed at other posters and not just you. I just don't understand why you needed to bring MM into it as in my opinion they are very different situations.
Like I said Jim I agreed with what you were saying about Sam and no doubt himself and MM need to reach their peaks again to have any chance of removing SP and ME from the team.
