Wigan Warriors fielded five different teams over the last few days, including a Women’s Team for the first time, and all five recorded victories.

Women
The Women’s team, formed over the off-season, played their first ever game against Featherstone Rovers Ladies at Robin Park Arena on Sunday. Wigan were up against last year’s beaten Grand Finalists but came up with a fantastic performance to see off their opponents 54-0.

Kate McMullan scored the first ever try for the team with Vanessa Temple (2), Sarah Harrison (2), Becky Greenfield, Rachel Thompson (2) and Georgia Wilson (2) all crossing the whitewash too.

Wigan’s women ran in ten tries to beat Featherstone

First Team
The Wigan First Team played out a dramatic game at Emerald Headingley Stadium on Friday night. Trailing 8-0 with just ten minutes to go the Warriors kept fighting and Oliver Gildart’s try gave them hope. Sam Tomkins converted and soon levelled the scores at 8-8 after a high shot on Sam Powell.

The Warriors won the match with just two minutes to go when Tomkins struck a fine 35-metre drop-goal to seal the two points and give Wigan their first win in Leeds in six years.

Reserves
A Reserves side that included Morgan Escaré, Gabe Hamlin, Liam Forsyth, Josh Woods and Josh Ganson ran out 34-6 winners over Wakefield on Saturday.

Craig Mullen scored first in the corner as Wigan started well. Escaré added another 20 minutes in before Reece Hamlett scored three minutes later, the Warriors 14-0 ahead and in control. There was still time for Wigan to score again as Woods added a fourth try, 18-0 at the break.

A try from Sam Grant put clear daylight between the teams and further tries from Ganson and a second for Escaré meant Wigan eased home.

Under-19s
Owing to the Reserves playing on the same day, an inexperienced Under-19s side took to the field against Warrington and put in a fine display.

Wigan led 12-6 at half-time with Jake Sculthorpe and Ethan Havard getting the tries.

Darrell Goulding’s side stretched their lead to 16-6 as Cian Tyrer crossed in the 56th minute. Callum Green scored just after the hour-mark to all but secure the win with Sculthorpe’s second try completing a fine win.

Under-16s
Wigan ran in eight tries as they beat Huddersfield Giants at Wigan St Judes ARLFC on Wednesday evening.

The Warriors led 36-18 at the break and put in a strong defensive performance in the second half to keep their opponents scoreless.

Umyla Hanley top scored for the Warriors as a hat-trick of tries and seven goals saw him finish the game with a personal haul of 26 points.
