Under-19s: Warrington 10 Wigan 52

Post by josie andrews »

Wigan Under-19s ran in ten tries in a dominant display to see off Warrington at Victoria Park on Saturday.

The Warriors led inside the first minute after Samy Kibula powered over, Callum Green added another just five minutes later with Harry Smith also crossing in the 11th minute. Smith converted all three tries and Wigan led 18-0 and were in full control.

Winger Liam Brinksman went over the Wolves soon after and the home side fought hard to get back into the game but Wigan were able to get back on top and Sam Halsall’s try meant they turned around 24-4 to the good.

The Warriors started the second period in similar fashion to the first as they scored three unanswered tries to put the result beyond doubt.

Green got his second of the game inside sixty seconds of the restart before stand-off James Barran scored Wigan’s sixth try of the game on the 44th minute.

Harry Smith added another Wigan try just six minutes later with his conversion making it 38-4 with half an hour still to play!

Ritchie Westwood pulled one back for Warrington but that only seemed to rally Wigan who finished off with another flurry of tries with Max Roberts, Joe Brown and Oliver Partington all scoring to round off a fine win.

Sammy Kibula's try was a fantastic bit of footwork from a big lad. He was unlucky giving away the interception try. If that pass had come off we would be hailing him as the new Lockers.

Just watched the highlights on WiganTV and wondering where the game was played. Nice looking pitch and the set up itself looked nice and professional.

Congratulation to the U 19's. Thanks for giving the fans some pride in a Wigan team, along with the Ladies team.
