So you would break William's contract by giving him or less. Or are you saying we take him out of the marquee status and pay Bateman a lot more money so technically giving us 3 players on marquee money.
If we just drop Williams's money then that is breach of contract and hi sues the club wins easily.

If we had a chance of signing Dylan Walker or keeping JB, what would be the fans choice given that we only have one marquee spot?
I dearly hope JB stays but Wigan cannot compete with the Australian offers.

Re: Bateman - Bulldogs
IMO money isn't the issue when keeping players, Budgie mentioned about how he misses the big match atmosphere in the NRL were every game is like our derby matches. Plus it really is another level of skill, any one with a winning mentality would be stupid not to want to test themselves at the highest level.
The only mistake Sam Tomkins made imo is going to the wrong side and Budgie at the Bunnies was far better than at the roosters (truthfully he should of stayed with them instead of coming back).
So debate if he should go or not but it hasn't nothing to do with how much he'll get paid and money won't keep him.

Bateman is not a marquee player, nor is he worth the wage of onemedlocke wrote:Sit him down and make him agree to a mutual agreement, He gives up the marque position, takes a cut in pay agrees to stay on an extra year and we don't loan him out to Hemel Stags till the end off 2019thegimble wrote:medlocke wrote:Give him Marque and play him inthe centres, remove Williams from Marque status and bon's your uncle, If he doesn't like it then tough, can't see any other clubs wanting him on recent performances

Bateman is a class player and rarely has a bad game, but thats not what a marquee player is IMO. To be a marquee player for me you need to be playing an influential role in the spine otherwise youre paying for a really good player to essentially "be steady"
The issue with the Marquee (especially in our team) it seems to have been used to simply stop promising players from leaving, instead of bringing in quality players

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Keeping George and re-signing Sam, at the time was the right thing to do. Making them both marquee was the only way we could have done it.
The fact that it hasn't played out the way it was expected to, isn't imo a cause for critism.
Re: Bateman - Bulldogs
Should have had a clause written in to the Marque signing that you can't use it for existing players, It can only be used to bring in Marque signings that would improve your team and Super League overalljobo wrote:Hindsight is a wonderful thing.josie andrews wrote:This is exactly what we shouldn’t & should be doing!Wigan_forever1985 wrote: Bateman is a class player and rarely has a bad game, but thats not what a marquee player is IMO. i still think Williams is an excellent player i just think he is being held back by the coaches style of play
