The return of the Regal trophy

Post by Warrior Wills »

Would anyone else welcome another cup competition in Rugby League?

Instead of playing teams three times in a season why don’t the powers that be start another cup competition. I would certainly go to the games. There are a lot of good teams in the Lower divisions that are capable of holding there own against lower opposition in the Super League clubs – like Saints.

Revamp the old Regal/JPS cup competition!

Plus, it’s all a bit stale with just the Challenge cup.

The floodlit trophy was the best. Tuesday nights have never been the same. The sight of Saints Cliff Watson dropping the ball about 25 yards out and Cliff Hill swooping in for the winning try to win the final, at the old scoreboard end of CP.

I would quite like to see the return of the Lancs/Yorks cups.

If the competition was more local then people would be more willing to travel mid week. If it was a national comp how many people would go to Hull (for example).

If it was regionalised then travelling would be vastly reduced and thus crowds would be up.

Wouldn't Hull qualify for Yorkshire? We've done away with metropolitan counties now so the East Riding exists once again. The folk of East Yorkshire would no doubt be very upset to be left out of Yorks.

I think another cup is a great idea, you could have an all superlague cup with the winner of this up playing the winner of the arriva cup? Or you could have a yorkshire cup and lancashire cup. The winner of each cup playing in a state of origin club final game what do you all think.
