You provide a financial reward for topping the charts at 23 rounds but then nil the points and have top 2 go to GF.

That way every game of the super 8's will count
Of course you’re right, the hub cap should have given at the end of round 23 and let loose the dogs all starting again on 0 points, but as ever I suspect vested interests from all concerned veto’d that idea.

Start again, Saints on 8 points, Wigan on 7, etc.

But the last 10 rounds of the first 23 wouldn't (at least not this year or last year).

Bilko posted an interesting idea that a Leeds fan came up with, that you take away the points scored against the qualifiers teams, so the table is a reflection of results over the season but between the top 8.

You can’t restart the table it makes the whole season as not worth attending.

Exactly. Any form of restart is only designed to make the competition artificially closer. It doesn't matter how you do it, start at 0 or weight the points left as your Leeds fan suggested, unless it devalues the preceding rounds in some way, nothing changes.

Saints are well clear this year and so why should any team below them be given a better chance of catching them?

All doing that would achieve is it would make it even more obvious you don't need to bother that much with the regular season.

I have a better idea. We have this thing called the league championship. The winner is the team that finished top after (with 12 teams in the league) 23 rounds. Then there is a separate trophy to play for, call it the Premiership Trophy. The top 8 play off for with 1 v 8 etc in the first round.

No daft format, no artificial gerrymandering of the league positions to try and make it exiting. Easy to understand and rewards clubs for finishing higher in the league.

If this doesn't give enough games, bring back the Regal Trophy.

This.
Footballers spend 90 minutes pretending they're injured. Rugby League players spend 80 minutes pretending they're not.

With all 12 clubs running a reserve team then more SL calibre players will emerge. From that in a couple of seasons there may well be a call for a 14 team SL.
Each club then has 13 game home and the same number away with the full fixture list announced in November.
That IMO would be the ideal SL League structure.

Why will SL players emerge? How many over 21s get signed from the Championship each year - 3 or 4? Why would playing in the reserves (part-time mind - what club is going to maintain a pool of full time pros that aren't realistically first teamers) produce more?

At risk of spuporting heatherington (which i really don't wnat to do), where in his figures was he wrong about player development and production? All a reserve league will do is drain players from the lower leagues.

Carter on sky was saying he needs 14 home games so how will that work, loop fixtures to pad the season out?

I know one thing I’m tired of the tinkering in our sport, choose a format and stick with it not for a couple of years either 10 years with a review maybe after 7,this stupidity can’t carry on fans need to plan as much as clubs do,though again I doubt the exodus of fans Lenegan seems to think has been caused by the super 8s will return, that’s just down to summer rugby
