New coach Adrian Lam checks-in to start his Wigan Warriors tenure
Adrian Lam will hit the ground running when he arrives at Wigan today.
That’s the prediction of Warriors’ executive director Kris Radlinski, who has been in regular contact with incoming coach Lam.
And Radlinski says his former Wigan team-mate can’t wait to begin preparations for the 2019 campaign.
He said: “I’ve been speaking to Lammy every couple of days, he’s had Skype conversations with the staff and conversations with a lot of the players.
“One of Lammy’s skills is his personal skills, he gets to know players and I think they’ll enjoy working with him.”
Lam, a former Queensland captain, became a firm fans’ favourite at Wigan during his four-year playing stint from 2001.
He is the current Australia assistant coach and has previously had roles with Cronulla, St George Illawarra and Sydney Roosters.
He succeeds Shaun Wane and will hold the fort for a year until Shaun Edwards takes charge in 12 months’ time.
When he was unveiled alongside Edwards in August, chairman Ian Lenagan said his short-term appointment could be a launchpad towards getting a head coaching position in the NRL in 2020.
“He realises this is a great opportunity for him and I think he’ll do great,” continued Radlinski. “When he gets over we’ll have some away days with the staff and the senior players.
“He’s not going to change too much that has worked for us, but I know he has some things he wants to introduce.”
The majority of the non-international players return for pre-season training next Monday.
Wigan are also expected to launch their new strip, complete with new main sponsor, next week.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Is Jake Shorrocks still a Wigan player?
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure

What do you expect him to do spend over the cap? What do you call cheap?oldhooker wrote:As long he is cheap quite possibly.si_bax wrote:wonder if this will speed up bringing in a new number 7

Don't hold your breath. Despite being the prime mover in getting the marquee rule in place it seems pretty obvious IL has no intention of taking advantage currently with the finances as they are.medlocke wrote:The cap doesn't exist if it's a marque signingshaunedwardsfanclub wrote:What do you expect him to do spend over the cap? I expect us to sign Kodi Nikorima on marque for 3 seasons with half the wages being paid by our new multi national soft drinks sponsorDaveO wrote:Don't hold your breath.
