With Mr Lam only being here officially for a season we are in a transition phase at Wigan from playing boring defensive (and it seems successful) rugby to a more attacking style of play. Will Lams aim be to make Wigan play the way he wants or would he have had instruction/ conversation with Edwards regarding the longer term direction Wigan are heading in?
I’d like to think he would be working towards setting up a team for Edwards to inherit whereby Shaun doesn’t have to “start all over again” with his own philosophy in 2020.
Either way the main manifest would surely be to get a more entertaining team on the pitch in attack ready for 2020 and hope we click by summer to challenge for trophies.
Just hope for no dramas behind the scenes

Re: Is Lam a proxy?
In light of recent statements in the press, the better question would be
"Is Shaun Edwards coming to Wigan in 2020?"
"Is Shaun Edwards coming to Wigan in 2020?"
Re: Is Lam a proxy?
I don’t think Edwards would do that to Wigan. He’s a Wigan lad through and through, don’t think he would like to tarnish his legacy that he left as a player

What some people on here are short of is ten or twenty years without a trophy, then perhaps they would appreciate the last eight years.

Re: Is Lam a proxy?
Good question, A&L.
My view is that "proxy" might be too strong a term as, to me, it would imply Edwards pulling the strings or calling all the shots.
However it would make perfect sense for SE to set out his aims and for Lam to spend his one season trying to build towards what Shaun wants. Similarly, it would be stupid if they didn't communicate, leaving us with a complete start-from- scratch situation for 2020.
The question then becomes "how much involvement/influence does SE have this year?" It's got to be some, and could be a lot more than is apparent.
Btw, I feel 100% sure that Edwards will be in charge this time next year. He loves jousting with the press ("How much do you earn, luv?") His recent comments were no more than him winding up reporters and giving them something to write about.
I'm so sure because (a) he takes pride in being a man of his word, and (b) I believe he has always planned to coach Wigan at some point.

Re: Is Lam a proxy?
The thing Inhabe found with Edwards would be the timing of the RU World Cup ending which is, what, September? And the potential “big job” of the England RU head coach being available if, hopefully, things go tits up for Twickenhamites. RFU May look to Edwards which, pains me to say, would be an attractive offer.
I doubt that though and I too think he will be at Wigan in 2020.
“Proxy” too strong? Perhaps. He isn’t a puppet like Theresa May but I get the feeling Wigan want a plan to bed in a strong 100% firing squad ready for 2020 and Lams role will somewhat ticking off a checklist.
Either way, Lam will benefit which is the whole point really.

Re: Is Lam a proxy?
I know we won comfortably in the end v Leeds but if Lam is a proxy for Edwards he wasn't listening about what Edwards has been saying about defence.
