‘Undervalued’ World Club Challenge in line for major revamp, says Elstone

I’m all for generating more interest & promoting it, but I don’t think it should be taken away from the grounds of the supporters of the clubs involved! That’s a slap in the face of the fans that have supported their club all season.
Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Elstone is seemingly obsessed with taking games away from where they really should be held, like it or not the magic weekend has found a home in Newcastle so what do the SL move it away to a ground that is ill suited to stage it.

Next let’s take the magic weekend to Barcelona, now let me be clear I think the Catalan Wigan game will be a measured success, allowed by their hosts to use the famous old stadium because of the challenge cup win why would they let a competition use it?it makes no sense at all just like Rimmer last season “let’s go to New York” let’s not eh.

Now we get to the WCC,take it where I keep seeing perhaps Dubai being mentioned as a possible stage for it,great stuff let them go and get sunburn in front of fifty well heeled diehards who make the trip, great atmosphere to be had.

I agree it needs a revamp well here’s one have it at seasons end of both comps instead of the situation we have now,for me it should be played when the teams that win their respective comps are still In place the way it is now is really a glorified friendly and a pre season one for the Aussie team.

So my little rant over mr“new beginnings” himself Elstone is full of huff and bluster with only the shot clock to show for it,stop with the wider outlook get the game right here first, this sound bite led nonsense is just that nonsense,Like Rimmer meeting with the Hearns, which of course will came to nothing because the gang of 12 chairman won’t give up power that to me was Rimmers undoing.

Oh and if you really want to give the WCC a bit of a revamp, help the club hosting it by not allowing SL games to be played on the same day as this blue chip event, there you go Rob you can have that tip for free.

Rant over

Well said Alan, that is exactly how I feel. The fans are losing out big time if they have their way ☹️

somebody with common sense thinking about us every day supporters of our clubs. I for one think the challenge cup should have been moved up North years ago because Wembley as run its course for our great game.

I would all be for the WCC being moved however not somewhere with no RL connection and only if it ends up being more than 2 teams

A magic weekend type day with 1/2/3 from both comps at old trafford would be great.

Take a idea from football the top so many teams in each comp get entered into it and they then all play for the trophey in a play off system instead of just 1 match.

Im probably one of the few who is happy MW is moving closer again as i havent been since it left manc
These are two reasons not to trust people.
1. We don't know them.
2. We do know them.

Have to disagree on having more than 2 teams in WCC - imo it should be a World Champions match and extra games detract from that.

It's ok saying have it in the hemisphere where the Intl comp is taking place, that was suggested years ago.
The difficulty playing the WCC a week following the GF is selling out the tickets. Although the travelling club would be known the home team would not until it wins its own GF a week prior to the WCC..
It takes ages to sell out these big events and the C Final doesn't sell out. Selling out a club's home ground to capacity would be difficult, selling out a neutral venue would be nigh impossible.

The idea of moving the WCC to somewhere other than UK or OZ is a great thought if Elstone can fathom out how to get the local patronage to fill half or more of the seats. In my mind it's a non-starter but it would be a 'jolly' for Elstone and his hangers on, freebies everywhere, travel, hotels, bar bills etc.
It's far more economical to give him and his mates 400 Marlboro and a bottle of Grouse each 'cos that's why these people go on free trips abroad.

Didn't we play at Anfield in front of around 30,000 back in the 90's?.
