Huddersfield forward Alex Mellor is to test his value on the open market after deciding against signing a new contract with the Giants for now and rejecting their initial offer regarding an extension to his existing deal.
The highly-rated forward is out of contract at the end of this season, and League Express understands at least one other Super League club is interested in his services should he decide to move on from Huddersfield.
The 24-year-old has grown into a pivotal figure for Simon Woolford’s side since signing for the club at the start of the 2017 season, shortly after the liquidation of former club Bradford Bulls.
He has since made over 60 appearances for the Giants, and while no definitive decision has yet been made on his future, League Express has learned that the club’s initial offer to Mellor was knocked back.

Mellor on open market after turning down initial deal from Huddersfield
Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
