Tim Sheens set to depart Hull KR with immediate effect

Post by josie andrews »

Tim Sheens’ time in charge of Hull Kingston Rovers is over.

The former Kangaroos coach, who guided the Robins back to Super League at the first attempt in 2017, is understood to have officially left his post.

Rovers have struggled throughout this season, and are just two points clear of bottom-placed London in Super League. They exited the Challenge Cup to Warrington at the quarter-final stage over the weekend – a match which has proven to be Sheens’ final game in charge of the club.

The 68-year-old was in his third season in charge of the club, taking charge at the beginning of the 2017 season. However, speculation about his future beyond this season has never been too far away, with reports linking York coach James Ford to the post.

Former Robins coach Justin Morgan is also reportedly on the hunt for a return to coaching, but one thing is certain: Rovers are on the hunt for a new coach after ultimately deciding to part ways with Sheens as they continue to fight against relegation at the bottom of the Super League table.

Hull KR’s next game is at home to defending Super League champions Wigan on Sunday.

Who will be in charge of Wigan Warriors' next opponents, Hull KR?

Wigan's preparations for Sunday's trip to Hull KR have been thrown a curveball amid reports coach Tim Sheens has departed.

The former Australia coach has left his position with immediate effect, reports TotalRL.com.

There has been no confirmation from the club.

James Webster and David Hodgson are Sheens' assistant coaches.

Previous reports had linked York coach James Ford with the role, while former KR boss Justin Morgan is understood to be on the hunt for a role.

Sunday's game at KR is followed by a match against Leeds - another club currently without a head coach.

Meanwhile, KR look set to be without prop Mitch Garbutt after he was handed a one-match ban.

He was charged with Grade B Dangerous Contact during the club's Challenge Cup defeat to Warrington.

Tony Smith ex Leeds and if it is, then that'll give us a real topic for discussion.
That's what I've heard anyway.

I hope we go to HKR with a plan. We all have seen were a coach leaves a club the team play their socks off for their new coach to keep their places.
I wonder if Morgan Escar'e will be playing?
