POWELL KICKS WIGAN TO VICTORY
Re: POWELL KICKS WIGAN TO VICTORY
It is not a given that Escaré is a better full-back than Sarginson.
Personally, I don't think he is.

Sarg was superb in the Grand Final in which he played full back.

Given the title of the thread we haven’t talked about Powell. Credit where credit is due for us the win did Sam

He also scored the match winning try against Cas.
Would I be being cynical to suggest that those who consider him the worst player in the league have occasional selective blindness?

Re: POWELL KICKS WIGAN TO VICTORY
maybe Powell's highlights stand out because they are relatively rare? Watch the best dummy-halves like Smith and Cook, and they can create more chances in a game than Powell does in a season.
Re: POWELL KICKS WIGAN TO VICTORY
I think he’s a pretty decent player, good defence and work rate..vision of the defence at the PTB could be a little sharper (if he could exploit that like Wire’s Clarke can then he’d be 10x better), also, one of the few who never hangs his head!

That was a hell of a kick, might just keep us up.

His defence is 10/10 but his attack is 3/10. Given the poor performance of our forwards and pivot players the finger gets pointed even more.
With better forwards and creative pivots you can get away with just a defensive hooker.

Exactly. It's not so unusual to see *anyone* playing at hooker in the NRL: Sam Thaiday, anyone? But when you have quality halves, that doesn't matter anywhere near as much.nathan_rugby wrote: ↑Tue Jun 11, 2019 1:06 pm [

If you have a greater hooker though then they can make the difference.moto748 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 11, 2019 7:45 pmExactly. - link up play with forwards - encouraging them to hit the gain line at pace and receive a good pass.
- scoots at the right time to gain meters/line break/ force penalty
- stepping out and utilising an optional forward runner and hitting a pivot player round the back
- kicking game from hooker
