Would I be being cynical to suggest that those who consider him the worst player in the league have occasional selective blindness?

His defence is 10/10 but his attack is 3/10. Given the poor performance of our forwards and pivot players the finger gets pointed even more.
With better forwards and creative pivots you can get away with just a defensive hooker.
Exactly. It's not so unusual to see *anyone* playing at hooker in the NRL: Sam Thaiday, anyone? But when you have quality halves, that doesn't matter anywhere near as much.
If you have a greater hooker though then they can make the difference.
- link up play with forwards - encouraging them to hit the gain line at pace and receive a good pass.
- scoots at the right time to gain meters/line break/ force penalty
- stepping out and utilising an optional forward runner and hitting a pivot player round the back
- kicking game from hooker
Oh, I agree with you. They are in short supply in England, though.
