Jesus H he is a centre or scrum half now. No idea how or why the NRL clubs are letting such a versatile and brilliant superstar leave in the prime of his career

I'll give it a day or two and some posters will be claiming he can play hooker and and kick goals too
so is he or is he not playing in the halves at the moment?has he kicked goals??? Maybe he hadnt played centre but what positions have you seenhim play?have u flown over to aus to watch him inthe lower grades?let him fail before you knock him...... we cant afford big name nrl (current stars) on big bucks so deal with it......it is only a rumour at the moment

What were your thoughts on Sam Tomkins? Was he a stand off or a linking full back? Could he play both positions to a good standard?

We can all read reports on Google, we can all see the YouTube clips. French has predominantly played full back but was a stand off as a junior. He appears to be in a similar style to Matty Bowen. He’s 23 years old and if Lam wants him in then that’ll do for me.

If he’s a full back with good hands, he can easily play stand off. Instead of a ripping him apart before he’s even been announced as our player, just give the lad a chance. If he’s rubbish then I’m sure you’ll love coming back on here and gloating about it. I suspect though, you’ll end up with a lot of egg on your face.

I think everyone is getting a little too over-excited. He has only had less than one season in the NRL, he currently isn't deemed good enough to play in the NRL yet he is being touted not only as a starting player for us but also that he can play anywhere across the backline, especially as a stand-off since he played their in his youth.

Potentially a very exciting signing given his highlights and some reports from people on here but I think everyone is getting a little too carried away with this one.

Too much hype and expectation at this stage as well as hypothesizing over which position he will play / being signed for when none of us actually have a clue.

Never let a little common sense get in the way of hype mate.

I can't see the club releasing any info on this until a work visa is issued. This could be a problem as he's not a project player and hasn't played top grade rugby for any great length of time. However, visas always do seem to be granted eventually so hopefully he'll be a Wigan player ASAP.

I agree. Maybe the novelty of the club being linked with signing someone from the NRL even if he is out of favour currently has got everyone a bit giddy.

I think it shows how desperate people are for signings who look a bit more exotic and more than championship standard.

The Burgess rumour is the one to really get excited about.

And we have both players now,I presume he will slot in with Hastings next term but for now fill in where and when needed.

The lad is gamble let’s not pretend he isn’t but for once it’s nice to see the club taking a gamble now he’s here, though I must admit I was very unsure about him,but then again that’s down to me not seeing him on tv,likewise I refuse to wet myself over a YouTube highlight reel as well so I can’t wait to see him live over the next couple of sesosn

Will he play this year or will it depend on injury?
