Head Coach Adrian Lam previews Wigan’s Betfred Super League Semi-Final vs Salford.

“The best thing about last week is that we’ve got a chance to fix it, our players have an opportunity to put things right.” Lam

Wigan Head Coach Adrian Lam believes Friday’s Sem-Final vs Salford Red Devils provides his players with the chance to right the wrongs of last week’s defeat to St Helens (K.O. 7:45pm).

Speaking on Tuesday afternoon at a joint press conference with Salford Red Devils, the 49 year-old faced the media alongside Liam Farrell, Ian Watson and Lee Mossop.

Following last week’s defeat to St Helens in the first Semi-Final of The Betfred Super League Play-Offs, Lam discussed how much he’d alter his side for this week’s crucial home tie with Salford.

In situations like this, I like to give players the opportunity to respond. The squad is what it is at the moment, it’s our strongest team.

Wigan’s opponents this Friday will be very familiar to Adrian Lam, having faced them four times already this season.

On Salford: “They’ve been outstanding all year. We’ve played them a fair few times and it’s always gone down to the wire in the back end of those games.

“They’ve done a pretty good job considering the rotation of players they’d had too. We respect them and especially the situation where they have nothing to lose.”

When asked whether he has one eye on the Grand Final, Lam said, “After Friday night, we’ve just wiped the slate clean and focused on Salford. This is a massive job for us, they are playing some good rugby at the moment, they’ve been one of the most consistent sides all season.”

On how his players have responded in training this week: “Really good. I think this group of players have been great in these situations in the past. They are embarrassed in some degrees as individuals and as a team and I know they will be a different team this week.”

Lam also provided an injury update on his squad ahead of Friday’s Semi-Final.

“Everybody got through [last week] all good. Dan Sarginson had a run today, he has a 50/50 chance for Friday, fingers crossed he gets through the back end of the week. Apart from that, everyone else is good.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
