Panapa based on the Youtube stuff I've seen was a great player. Good shout.
Loved Coley too.
If Amos doesn't get injured, would Sam T ever have become a fullback?
Underrated/Left-Field Wigan Teams
Re: Underrated/Left-Field Wigan Teams
I think so, Noble even commented on it that he had trained a bit there under him as he had plans to use him as one also

Paul Johnson. Again, like Darrell Goulding, a sound, competent, capable RL centre with all the basics in place.
Scored tries at International level playing back row, if I remember correctly.

If you've been watching Sky you may recognise this team. It struck me that many of the players fit the "left-field" category:
1. Rads
2. Carney
3. Aspinwall
4. Hodgson
5. Dallas
6. Lockers
7. Luke Robinson
8. Pongia
9. Newton
10. Craig Smith
11. Cassidy
12. Tickle
13. Farrell

Mark Smith
Hock
O'Connor

What about Ged Byrne? My favourite player back then. He was part-time for ages.

A good owd Hindley lad too, iirc.
Now I'll have to try and come up with a team from, or linked with, Hindley. Any help appreciated!

Re: Underrated/Left-Field Wigan Teams
1. Joe Lydon
2. Amos Roberts
3. Sam Panapa
4. B J Mather
5. D Myers
6. Julian O'Neil
7. Phil Blake
8. Les Davidson
9. McCormack
10. Glynn Shaw
11. Ian Roberts
12. Mick Cassidy
13. Ian Potter
Not many of these seem to get picked in all time teams but would give a decent team a run out.

I believe that Ged Byrne was a window cleaner. Possible that he gave that up and went full-time at some point. No straw damn us wrote: ↑Tue Jun 09, 2020 8:00 pmThat can't be true every Rugby League fan "knows" that Wigan were full time pro's from around 1984
George Formby lived in Hindley Green, but I don't think he played for Wigan. He was the only man to win the Grand National and the Isle of Man TT. I'd like to think his song "When I'm cleaning windows" was based on Ged, but the timing doesn't fit. Maybe Ged's dad or grandad?
