I am actually a bit surprised that the 20/40 rule wasn't exploited in the NRL, but I think it's a thoroughly bad idea anyway. The 40/20 has only improved the game IMO, I realise others differ on that.

Can't make out the rule change when 1 or more defenders strip the ball from attacker trying to ground the ball over the try line.
Last year it was given as a penalty (10m out) but I don't know from those rules what the decision is for 2021 ?
If anyone knows and can explain, thanks.

I thought the stripping rule didn't apply when an attacker was in the process to trying to ground the ball for a try.

Furthermore, I thought that had always been the case. Shows what I know.

Other than it NOT being a penalty, not sure what else it could be?

I think it maybe too risky. Even if you make it to your 30 your going to turn the ball over inside the opposition's half with a decent down field kick and chase. If you go for touch from inside your 20 the could have the ball in a very strong attacking position. Maybe that's it? Only applicable if you really can't make it out of your 20 when it's worth a go as you've nothing to lose, but you're in a bad position to setup a good kick anyway.

It is probably very hard to do. If you are down in your 20m and approaching the 4th/5th tackle, teams are going to be aware of the 20/40 kicking rule and place extra emphasis on line speed and closing the kicker down.

Maybe they are expecting more space out wide as wingers lie deeper expecting a 20/40 kick. With this rule and two 10 metre passes back you could get in your opponents 20 metre zone with 2 kicks. Personally l would prefer to get there with good exciting rugby rather than Union type of play. This is just my opinion, but it could save wear and tear to forwards

I'm always suprised when teams kick from just outside of their 40m line. If you're close, why not make sure your inside the line when kicking towards touch? The kickers are often half a step over.

Ta. That's right, but not clearly explained by the RFL. So play on presumably, whatever happens next e.g. drop out, etc.
