Current Hull FC stars without a club for 2022

Post by josie andrews »

It’s coming to that time again when clubs nail down the futures of those they want to keep, but for some, it will be time to leave.

So, we at Serious About Rugby League believed it would be good to start off a series including those players from clubs whose futures are still yet to be decided.
Next up are Hull FC.

Jack Brown

Jack Brown was said to be negotiating a new deal with Hull in May of this year, but so far no further news has been given on that. But, the 20-year-old prop will surely be an FC player in 2022 after impressing towards the back end of last season under Andy Last and again under Brett Hodgson.

Joe Cator

Again, like Jack Brown above, Joe Cator was said to be in negotiations with Hull a few months ago about a new contract. Though nothing further has come from that, the forward has been so impressive for the black-and-whites that he would not be short of suitors if a new deal wasn’t forthcoming.

Jake Connor

Love him or hate him, Jake Connor is a maverick and one whom Brett Hodgson has always spoken so highly of. The new Hull boss loves the way Connor plays and has entrusted him with the number one shirt. It’s almost certain Connor will stay at the KCOM for a good few years yet

Bureta Faraimo

Rumoured to have signed with Castleford to follow old boss Lee Radford, Bureta Faraimo looks to be on his way out of Hull, having fallen behind Mahe Fonua and Adam Swift in the pecking order on the wings.

Brad Fash

Having played all of his career at Hull so far, there’s nothing to suggest that Brad Fash will be leaving anytime soon. Still only 25, he’s played almost 100 games for the black-and-whites and could well be a one-club man given the opportunity.

Masi Matongo

Another that’s played all of his career at Hull, Masi Matongo is currently sidelined with a serious injury, so might find it difficult to earn another contract in the time he has left. However, still only 25 and with props maturing late in their careers, the Zimbabwean-born forward could be handed a lifeline.

Manu Ma’u

Now 32, Manu Ma’u is out of contract after what will be two successful seasons at Hull. The rampaging forward has become a fans’ favourite for his no-nonsense approach and barnstorming runs, but Ma’u may return to Australia yet.

Ligi Sao

Another that’s impressed greatly since joining ahead of the 2020 season, Ligi Sao has plenty of years ahead of him aged just 28. Brett Hodgson has always been a big fan of the forward which could see Sao extend his stay at the club.

Chris Satae

Arguably Hull’s greatest player in 2021 so far, Chris Satae seems to be improving with every game. He’s a big hit at the KCOM and, like Ligi Sao, is only 28.

Andre Savelio

After a less-than successful NRL stint with the Brisbane Broncos, Andre Savelio returned to the UK in 2019 to join Hull FC and he’s not looked back since. As consistent as ever, Savelio has taken his game to another level in 2021 in the back-row and it would make sense if he signed a new deal.

Jamie Shaul

Signing just a one-year deal after rupturing his ACL last season, Jamie Shaul will have to go to some great lengths to earn a new contract at Hull this year. With Jake Connor taking Shaul’s number one shirt, head coach Brett Hodgson perhaps doesn’t see a future for the 28-year-old.

Adam Swift

Adam Swift was pushed out at St Helens so signed for Hull ahead of last season, but rarely featured under Lee Radford and Andy Last. However, Brett Hodgson seems to have given the winger a new lease of life and has greatly impressed his new boss which will likely result in an extended deal.

Mitieli Vulikijapani

Not technically out of contract as the club hold an option for a further year, Mitieli Vulikijapani has yet to make his debut for Hull in a Super League game so it’s difficult to see how the winger could earn a new deal. The Fijian has, however, been recalled from his loan at Bradford so head coach Brett Hodgson could soon put him in the fold.

Connor Wynne

After being loaned to York for a month, 20-year-old Connor Wynne returns to Hull with more experience under his belt. It remains to be seen whether he can force Jake Connor out of the reckoning at fullback, so Wynne may have to stick to a wing place to impress.
