Hastings
Full back? It’s time to wrap it up!
Re: Hastings
Seemed to me like a fairly desperate plan, which didn't work at all.

Well it was no surprise that Hastings ended up at fullback I’ve no doubt at some point Lam will be playing him at prop before long as for the Wakefield game who knows what’ll happen

Re: Hastings
I’m not usually negative but whoever decided to play Hastings at FB need a kick up the arse.
Even asked young Hanley, why, play Hastings there when you’re our next fit specialist FB, when he was ball boy in the second half & told him to tell Lammy I’d see him after the game to carry it out!
I’m sorry but Hastings was trying too hard last night in fact I think he forgot he was playing FB at times! I

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Re: Hastings
Think that was the only position he didn’t try to play last night! He tried far too hard for me.fozzieskem wrote: ↑Sat Jun 19, 2021 7:18 am Well it was no surprise that Hastings ended up at fullback I’ve no doubt at some point Lam will be playing him at prop before long as for the Wakefield game who knows what’ll happen

I did say earlier that it could be a Lam masterstroke in as much as it would fool KR. Unfortunately I did not allow for the fact it would fool Wigan even morejosie andrews wrote: ↑Sat Jun 19, 2021 7:25 am I’m not usually negative but whoever decided to play Hastings at FB need a kick up the arse.

Regarder une fille en bikini, c'est comme avoir un revolver chargé sur sa table:
Il n'y a rien de mal a ça mais il est difficile de penser à autre chose.
Now Europe is just for holidays.

I agree Josie he was here, there and everywhere and in the end did nothing of note, but he didn’t get to be manof steel doing that he pretty much played in the halves and that’s where his best position is as we all knowjosie andrews wrote: ↑Sat Jun 19, 2021 7:27 amThink that was the only position he didn’t try to play last night! Re: Hastings
It's worth bearing in mind that Hastings didn't play badly. It certainly isn't a case of it being the wrong decision because of how Hastings played, it was the wrong decision because it took our biggest and most consistent attacking threat away from what he does best and left us with two halves who couldn't compensate for that. Clearly Lam was thinking Hastings would be solid at the back and he was right but we missed so much from him. He's also one of our best players defensively because of his line speed and we couldn't benefit from that either.
Powell inevitably will get criticism but he made 59 tackles last night. One of the benefits of having Hastings, Smith and Leuluai is being able to move Hastings into 9 and not overwork Powell and give us something a little bit different from dummy half. We couldn't make a change like that last night all because Lam decided we shouldn't play a fullback at fullback.
Hindsight is 20/20 and maybe Hanley would have had a shocker but I'd fancy our chances much more with Hastings starting in the halves.
Hastings is the sort of player who you want to have a constant impact on the game and last night he couldn't do that.

Re: Hastings
I agree with that eagle eye. iMO Hastings was solid defensively and under the high ball. I'm not saying it's his best position, but his personal performance was good.
