Doesn't look as good a player as Dodds, platform or no platform. There've been games this season where we haven't been bullied in the forwards, and have had a decent amount of field position, and Smith just makes too many unforced errors.
This is the first time I've seen Dodds play well, he has that nack of having loads of time - good prospect.
How much does it say about the Wigan set up? A lad that dominated the Aussie youth team looks lost now.
The game is littered with players who had a great game once and never kicked on,I hope Smith isn’t going to become another member of that class but from what I’ve seen of him I don’t buy the hype that is (diminishing)around him,is it another case of him simply being over played by Lam?

As for Dodds he looks a different prospect altogether since the last time I saw him play live he’s come on leaps and bounds since then but as ever time will tell with him
Come on Fozzie, one is playing behind a pack made up of men the other team are cannon fodder. Andy Greg could have played behind the Saints pack at 60 ish years of age. We need our senior players to deliver and recruit some better, and more experienced, forwards.

I get the impression most opposition coaches close down jacko and faz as thats were 80% of our moves come from…… im sure that faz is the only forward who can run lines into a gap
IF YOU STRIKE ME DOWN I WILL BECOME MORE POWERFUL THAN YOU CAN POSSIBLY IMAGINE

Club needs a statement after this shite, we got one for a viral infection loss from a nothing game but not a hint of anything after we have failed every hurdle in 2 years.
They are not even a good side.

That may be so mate but I just and haven’t bought the hype surrounding Smith he makes far to many errors for me,one great game a while back isn’t cutting the mustard, now in his defence he should be nowhere near that team at present because of the issues you raise but he is and all it’s doing is highlighting the problems with his game.

We are led to believe that he will be the starting half next year does he really strike you at present as the man to drive Wigan on?

I do try not to go after the young lads but for me he’s being over played (they all are) and in my gut it tells me he’s not as good as perhaps we thought he was or is could be,but as always I’d love to be proven wrong and I really hope I am but he Ryan Hampshire mrk2 to me,at the moment at least.

I’ll say again Dodds has moved on for the better but even so he’s not the finished article yet.

Havard is struggling and really lacks the aggressive streak to become a super league top prop. He needs Smithies and Partingtons attitude.

Smith what can i say offers nothing , no pace lacks the basic skills to be a top class super league scrum half. Worryingly compared to Dodds tonight he looked like a rabbit caught in the headlights, There is no way we can build a side around him going forward
Mate, what about Faz, Bateman, Hastings etc. they were as bad.

I agree. But I may be controversial here, but I don’t think all these so called brilliant youngsters of ours are as good as we would like to think.
Partington: Tries hard, not big enough, never looks like breaking a tackle.
Smithies: exactly the same.
Byrne: big enough, just not good enough.
On top of this, Isa, Farrell, and Bateman are not exactly huge, and we come back to the same problem we have had for ages.
Backs can’t do anything behind a pack that’s is getting slaughtered week in week out.
The 2 props we have signed from the NRL can’t arrive soon enough.
Think scully summed it up - they aren’t ready yet they need senior players around them
Spot on.

None of these young lads should be playing week in week out! A forward or prop only comes into their own at around 25/26! These kids won’t make it to that!

We’ve got senior forwards who should be playing more minutes, not these kids, this is what angers me, the oldest is 22!
Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
