The Hull FC captain could be sent for a long spell on the sidelines.
Luke Gale could receive up to an eight match ban following his red card in Hull FC's defeat to St Helens.
The Black and Whites captain has received two charges for 'other contrary behaviour' graded at Grade C and D respectively.
Gale was dismissed for an incident in which he lifted his leg and caught St Helens halfback Jonny Lomax after he kicked the ball, which resulted in a cut down his leg.
England halfback Gale was shown his marching orders in what was a nightmare home debut following his move from Leeds Rhinos.
And he now faces the prospect of a huge suspension that would see him miss a significant chunk of the campaign.
A Grade C charge carries a 2-3 match ban while a Grade D comes with a 3-5 match suspension. Should Gale be found guilty of both charges it could result in an eight-match ban if the maximum punishments are handed out by the Match Review Panel.
That would be a disaster for the Black and Whites, with Brett Hodgson admitting that he made Gale captain due to their confidence in the player's availability all season.
The club had pinned their hopes on Gale and Josh Reynolds to run in the halves, with their options limited if either are unavailable. Jake Connor's form at fullback has left the coaching staff reluctant to move him from the position, with Ben McNamara the only other specialist half in the team.

Luke Gale facing EIGHT match ban after Match Review Panel deliver verdict on red card
Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Reckless, but no intent to injure, and no serious injury suffered. 8 games is bonkers.

Very harsh
IF YOU STRIKE ME DOWN I WILL BECOME MORE POWERFUL THAN YOU CAN POSSIBLY IMAGINE
Re: Luke Gale facing EIGHT match ban after Match Review Panel deliver verdict on red card
Whilst I think it was a silly challenge, 8 games is ridiculous. The games hard enough without some of the cheap shots but it is going a bit soft, been handing bans out like confetti.
Re: Luke Gale facing EIGHT match ban after Match Review Panel deliver verdict on red card
It's 3 games he got not 8. He faces a 2nd charge from what I understand, on a Grade "D" charge in another incident being looked at tomorrow in a tribunal, which carries a separate 5 match ban.

Luke Gale discovers length of suspension after disciplinary hearing concludes
The Hull FC captain is set for a long spell on the sidelines.
Luke Gale has been suspended for five games after the Hull FC captain's disciplinary hearing was heard.
The Black and Whites star was sent off in the club's defeat to St Helens and was subsequently handed two separate charges.
One was a Grade D charge for the challenge in which Gale caught Jonny Lomax with high studs after a failed attempt at a charge down.
Furthermore, he was handed a Grade C charge for his subsequent attempt to lift Lomax as he sat on the turf nursing an injury.
Gale and Hull FC decided to appeal the Grade C charge while the Grade D offence automatically went to tribunal, meaning both charges were heard at the disciplinary hearing.
But it was decided beforehand that the two incidents would be viewed as collective, rather than individual cases, a decision approved by the Match Review Panel. As such, it was deemed that five matches was a sufficient punishment.
As a result, Gale will now miss over a month of action and will be able to return when the Black and Whites travel to Wigan Warriors on Thursday, March 31st.
He will miss visits to two of his former clubs, Castleford Tigers and Leeds Rhinos, as well as home games against Salford Red Devils and Huddersfield Giants.
His final game in the stands will come in the shape of a Challenge Cup tie against an opponent not yet known.
