Wigan in relegation dogfight

We all knew that this season wouldn't come easy and when basil was appointed we would need a couple of seasons to get back to the old winning ways. I was there last night and it was awful to drive home defeated by salford after standing in those freezing conditions. But, we need to stay positive get behind our lads and the coach, with time i feel we will get there!

Totally agree, we have to back the coach and players.

Friday nights game against the Wolves has become an important one to win, both teams haven't had the best of starts.

It'll come down to whoever wants the win most ... with the backing of the fans I'm sure the team can make up for last nights poor performance.

I back the coach and players every week Win,Lose or Draw. We do have to be a little bit patient as the team is just bonding at the moment. People on here did you take any positives out of last night? I did. Pat richards, Calderwood and the front row again.

Does anyone know why Lockers wasnt on the field ? Is Hasen a loose forward as well wouldnt he had been better @ 13 and cover him at the 2nd row and not plany Brown?

Lockers had a slight groin strain. F-ing stupid to play brown at 13 instead of a forward, its bad enough when he plays at stand off but to play at loose forward. Think Millward must have been having a delusional moment!

I know you don't like him Ian but does know one remember Millward's words in the preseason saying that it would take time to build a strong, winning team. Everyone seems to have forgotten this and expects everything now, now, now!

We've had 4 competitive games this season. Maybe we should be doing better, but Millward is still deciding what's what in a competitive environment. Choosing who he likes where, who doesn't fit in what position (e.g. Brown at 13), etc. What we need to be is patient, it's not going to happen overnight is it. Wait the course of the season and I bet we are doing better come summertime and all this talk of relegation (like Bradford last season) will have been forgotten about.

At best these lost points have wiped out any chance of a top two finish already. I know that assumes we could actually get our act together and complete which seems far from likely on todays result.

However, the point I am making is that games lost now cost you later and have already affected our potential success this season.

You can't win one form four and expect to finish in the top two.

Unless there is a radical improvement and quickly we will not make the six and will be involved in another relegation fight.

If that comes to pass I am afriad Millward will have to go come the end of the season. Last year we had the excuse of an appalling and unprecidented injury situation compounded by letting Farrell leave.

Rads retirement isn't a good enough excuse for another season of under acheivement. Millward is supposed to have had a hand in the recruitment of several of our squad so the buck stops with him.

I am preperared to give him the season to see where we finish but if it is remotely close to the relegation zone he will have failed and there can't be any excuses for that.

DaveO, I couldn't get there tonight. I was late getting home from the airport having been away on business for a couple of days.

Extremely disappointing result obviously, but aren't you getting a little bit carried away? Last season was an unmitigated disaster but we were never involved in a relegation dogfight as you posted!!

I am as disappointed as you but hysterical posts don't change a thing. Has Millward suddenly forgot how to coach? I think not. as the legendary Jack Gibson once said, "the better your players, the better you coach".

Rightly, you can come back with the fact that Basil had a hand in our new signings. As I said, I didn't go tonight. Was our awful result down to bad signings?
