Wigan to face Whitehaven in pre-season friendly.

Academy and Reserves fixture to take place on Sunday 22nd January.

Shane Eccles: “This is a great opportunity to see our young players competing against a Championship team.”

Wigan Warriors will play Whitehaven RLFC in a pre-season friendly on Sunday 22nd January 2023.

This will be an Academy and Reserves fixture with more pre-season games set to be announced soon ahead of the new season.

A youthful Warriors team will make the trip to the Recreation Ground for a 3pm kick-off in what will be the first game for the Cherry and Whites in 2023.

Head of Youth, Shane Eccles, said: “We are looking forward to taking an Academy and Reserves select squad up to Whitehaven for what should be a great challenge for the players. This is a great opportunity to see our young players competing against a Championship team.

“From speaking to Whitehaven we know they have big ambitions for the season and when they approached us about playing a friendly we were keen to get this arranged.

“It should make for a great day and hopefully we will see a good number of supporters travelling up to watch and support our young players.”

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
