HAVING homegrown talent is what Super League clubs pride themselves on.

There is nothing better than seeing a player that has developed through the academy and scholarship sides right the way to the first-team to then thrive on the big stage.

In recent years, there has been a greater emphasis on producing own stars as the sport looks to head in a different direction under IMG. But, here are all the homegrown players in each Super League side’s first 17 (shown in bold).

Very interesting, my view is that there should be a minimum number of homegrown players in every matchday squad.

If there was a maximum of four overseas players on the books and up three on the pitch, the local lads might, just might be in with a chance and a future in the game.

The only problem with that Bill is that it wouldn’t encourage some teams to develop junior players.

A very valid point and we all know the clubs who don't seem to care about having a junior set-up. They take their bite out of the Sky apple, bring in a couple of aging players, hope things will look up (and probably put the rest on a horse.)
