Cust isn’t a bad player at all but sometimes circumstances push a player out of a side and maybe out of a club. One thing he will possibly get, is a great chance around that cup game to state his case for a regular start and a new contract because Field won’t be back for a couple of weeks after that. I think he’ll need to take it though because if everyone were fit currently, I don’t think he’s in the 17 but things change. Having him hoping to prove a point in that cup game (if he’s back) could be great for us.

I agree Bevan stays at one for me Smith has grown into a dominant half Jai goes six because he compliments Harry. With Smith at seven, Field and French running off his play looked very promising at Leigh. The other major thing is Miski does the yards that fits with our game and for me he's nailed the wing spot. I do think Matty is a fan of Cust his line speed and chase along with organisation are big factors l would love to see Cust given a crack at 9 with the other positions mentioned took up. Maybe Shorrocks has nailed the right to have a go at 13 sure Morgan can do the prop role.
Some big decisions to be made because this team can if things drop in place be a rea force next few years.

It would be absolute madness to not have

1 French

6 Field
7 Smith

When everyone’s fit. French and Field on the ball at all times in the middle of the field is a game changer.

Cust still has his role to play when injuries, suspensions and resting players hits.

Looking forward to him being back available, gives us options.

Ide meet half way and say defo field at fullback in bad decisions. It is a great problem to have though and i agree smithies could play prop no bother.Maybe its KPP who drops to the bench with smithies second row and shorrocks loose, who knows?

Custs biggest issue is he's an aussie, had he come through the ranks he probably would be afforded more time and space despite the fact he's actually played less senior rugby than harry smith and is within months in age

that said at full strength its hard to make a case for his inclusion in a match day team. French is a must at 1 - he is wasted on the wing plus miski has earnt his place. Field needs to be in the team so he takes 6 and Smith has earnt the 7 shirt in spades.

Before the season started i would of said his best chance was back up 9 but o'neill has come on lots this year also and i wouldnt like to see him lose that so it really is difficult to see how he makes a game day 17

Anyone who thinks shorrocks is as good as Cust in the halves must be on hard drugs. Shorrocks is a good competitor and good defender but looks lost in attack a lot of the time. I’m not knocking him because I think he’s a solid player, just don’t see which is his best position, certainly not in the halves. I’d see how cust gos for the rest of the season before making a decision on him, sure Peet will make the right call.

He might need to oust Hampshire.

I’m not sure anybody does. He’s done a great job Shorrocks but it’s clear as day he’s ‘filling in’ and it’s a good job we’ve had him. We do need to get a specialist 6 in there asap for me and that may come from the start or part way through the game tomorrow. We could well see Hampshire take Shorrocks place (at 6) tomorrow, Cust then take Hampshires in the next week or 2 and then Field take Custs not long after. That is some impressive competition for places and to have them all scrapping for a spot is no bad thing.

True, its one of those things that gets very little mention in TV commentary either. Our 1st 3 no 6 are all out injured and Shorrocks is certainly make shift in that position, but has done a fantastic job for the team. His attitude and defence v Saints alone was at times outstanding for someone alien to that position. It may have been he was running of instinct but he certainly got to places you probably wouldnt have expected to see Field or Cust in

In terms of Cust, its a difficult one as many on here were commenting about his form pre-injury, and given what he's out with, its a good chance that was impacting him prior to being taken out of the firing line. I agree with you, he's not a bad player, but there is a chance due to circumstance, he may not get to play 6 again at Wigan (i know may sound dramatic). With Hampshire due back 1st and Field not too much later, Matty Peet could have some big decisions to make, especially ff Hamsphire really puts his hands up and is playing well.

There's no doubt with Field at 6 we have a potent attacking threat along with French at 1. In the radio commentary when Wigan played Leigh, Ryan Brierley was guest commentator, and he said Salford preferred Field to pass, as its not his strongest asset, so were happy for him to release the ball, as he wasnt then running at them, and chances are the pass could be loose (not exact words, but there or there abouts) but he caused havoc when running whether he broke the line or not

There will now be some real good competition for places with Hampshire, Cust and Field all due back from injury, along with Thornley

French is absolutely wasted on the wing, it's apparent he is much more dangerous from fullback floating around and cutting into the line and getting a bit of space for kick returns, especially with Miski there to take the heavy hit ups.
