Harry Smith is 23, by the time Shaun Edwards was 23 he'd been playing first team rugby for several years, was a GB Lion and had played 12 matches for Balmain. the time is over for possibilities, he should be delivering the goods on a regular basis by now, if not then it is time to move on

Looking at fans' reactions, I do think there's a tendency, perhaps in all of us, to go into "Woe is me, the end of the world is nigh" mode. So a few comments just for balance.

• Try withholding full judgement until the end of the season. All players make mistakes, but it's also hard to shine in a team that's being well beaten.
• Harry Smith is still a young lad with enormous possibilities. He has been badly handled by having kicking responsibilities and effectively being the sole or senior half-back, when he should have been playing alongside an "old head". Personality-wise, he's clearly not a strutting cockerel like Greg or Luke Gale. We need to stop piling so much responsibility on him, and create conditions where he can develop and flourish.
• Not excuses, but with Singo, Cooper and Isa playing, we'd have been a different team.
• There are always a few positives if you look hard enough: Ellis seems to have played long minutes recently and had looked at least half-decent. Mago to a lesser extent, though he should still go at the end of the season. Miski is better than we all thought, despite shooting the line today.

Teams go through bad spells and can come though them. They need our support - it was good to see some of the younger fans still singing at the end today.
While I agree with most of your points it isn't the loss today that's the issue it's the nature of it. We opened up in defense so easily today that its wasn't even difficult for catalan to get over.

Different Era. Look at Williams at the same age wigan fans had issues with him but he has matured into a more all-around players.

Players are faster and bigger now and as much as everyone cracks on about the golden generation they would not be the same players now.

It's not that it's a defeat. It's that it's the second (at least) this season that could be categorised as a dismal capitulation.

This was definitely on par with that Leeds defeat but there's bee signs something simply isn't right at the club all season long from the seasons start at KR

The question I was addressing was "What can we do to get the best out of Smith?", not "Is he as good as Edwards?"

If you replaced Smith with a 23-year-old Edwards in that team, I doubt if we'd have won.

And if we'd moved everyone on that you criticised, we'd have no team at all - oh sorry, forgot about your list of names from the NRL, all of whom are earning more than we could pay them, and wouldn't come anyway. A bit like a Latics fan saying "We should sign Messi, Harland, Gündogan and de Bruyne"!

If we are basing it on Shaun Edwards standard then we will have to fold Super League. So what is your pointless point?

So you think the team is good enough?

Nothing to do with how good either player is, was thinking more in terms of how younger players these days seem to be molly coddled and slowly fed into the squad more, where as in the past and currently in the NRL they where / are established by that age, is he still going to be full of possibilities when he's 26?
