Super League set for huge relegation dog fight with Wakefield trinity heading towards famous win

It’s half time at Belle Vue with bottom of the table Wakefield Trinity hosting fifth placed Warrington Wolves with plenty on the line for both sides.

Mark Applegarth’s men could pull level with Castleford Tigers with a win which would set Super League up for a brilliant final seven rounds, and it would make the Wakefield and Castleford clash on the 18th of August all the more important.

As for Warrington they’re looking to stop a five game losing streak, one that’s seen them slide to fifth place and only two points inside the playoffs with Daryl Powell’s men looking like genuinely slipping out despite starting the season on fire.

It’s currently half time down at the Be Well Stadium, better known as Belle Vue, and the home side Wakefield are leading Warrington by a score of 22-0.

Trinity have been exceptional and look like pulling off an incredible win, one that wouldn’t just be historic in terms of a standout win but one that could genuinely help save the club’s Super League status.

Once the team sheets were announced the Trinity fans were confused and some even frustrated at the lack of Will Dagger in the team.

The half-back has been brilliant since joining from Hull KR but instead the spine for Trin was Max Jowitt, Mason Lino, Luke Gale and Liam Hood.

A key addition to the squad was the loan return of Innes Senior on the wing and it was the Senior show in the first half as the Huddersfield Giants youngster registered a first half hattrick.

Senior opened the scoring inside the first ten before big Kevin Proctor crossed over minutes later.

Another try, Senior’s second, came within minutes as Wakefield blitzed what looked like a very tired Warrington side.

Senior then completed his hattrick on the half hour mark sending the fans into absolute dreamland, 22 points to the good against a team that was formerly topping the table.

As good as Wakey have been it’s been a lacklustre showing from Warrington Wolves who have their first choice spine starting with the return of George Williams, but that’s been to no avail with the Wire attack stalling.

The fans down the road at Wheldon Road will be watching this scoreline intently and with growing panic, the Tigers losing 34-16 on Friday night against a Hull KR side that had gone to golden point just days earlier.

Warrington were booed off at half time whilst there was rapturous applause for Trinity, who genuinely look like they’re set to complete what will be a great escape after losing their first 14 games.

They started collapsing when we beat them in the third game of the Easter period! They just seem to have lost all confidence! Just cannot understand how they have just capitulated!

Is it something to do with Darryl Powell?? 🤔

Team cohesion? Just buying heaps of talent doesn’t necessarily mean they win the comp? They might not get on as a group or get on with the coach, unsure to be fair. But I won’t be losing any sleep over it.

And I’ll definitely be watching wakey vs cas on 18th august!

It’s nice when Wigan have a top result of a weekend and a few big clubs lose though 😊

Uncle Daryl's standing will be completely shot when he finally goes. Rebuilding - no excuse. Money - no excuse. Even Cas won't want him back

Powell had the right idea to root out the deadwood there but all he seems to have done is replace it with more deadwood...he's gone surely after this?

Holbrook or Briers? I'd be worried about either for different reasons.
