Littler sacked by Roughyeds

Post by josie andrews »

Stuart Littler has been sacked by Oldham in a surprise move this evening (Monday).

With the Roughyeds gearing up for a forthcoming League One play-off tilt, Littler's services have been dispensed with.

Only this morning, Littler said that his Roughyeds squad were bidding to "pull together to make sure we are firing going into the play-offs".

However, recent disappointing results and performances appear to have forced the Oldham board to act.

A club statement read: "Oldham RLFC can confirm that Stuart Littler has left the club after being relieved of his position as head coach.

"Mike Ford will take over as interim head coach for the remainder of the season, supported by assistant coach Brendan Sheridan, who will remain in post."

Club Chairman Bill Quinn said: "We’d like to thank Stuart for all his hard work and commitment since joining the club.

"However, recent results and performances have been disappointing and fallen short of our expectations.

"We strongly believe that our playing group is more than capable of achieving our goal of promotion.

"With the play-offs fast approaching, the board felt that the time was right to take a new direction to give us the best possible chance of achieving that goal."

The board will now begin the process of searching for a new Head Coach to take the club forward from next season.

The fifth-placed Roughyeds have lost three out of their last four matches, with those defeats being against sides placed above them.

Prior to that, Oldham were on a six game unbeaten streak with a draw against table-toppers Dewsbury, as well as a resounding 40-20 victory over Hunslet.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Listened to a good podcast the other week were Mike Ford was the guest talking about his career and involvement with Oldham. Very good think it was on Out Of Your League podcast.

Shocked with that tbh. I thought he was a decent Coach.
I have supported Wigan RL since the late 80s. First game was a cup tie v Barrow. Also a fan of football and Speedway. Have a varied taste in music.
