Can someone explain the new rules. As I understand it retention of a superleague place depends on a number of measures eg attendance, Does it now mean that if a team were to win all the available cups in a season they are not assured of a place ?

Given you get points toward the criteria based on winning the cup and GF and also points related to where you finish in the league you would have to play in a hovel, have next to no social media exposure and so on for that to be possible.

The team would have to finish in the relegation slot as well as not be a grade A team to be relegated.

So if a team was given an A rating in 2024 but finished bottom in 2025 they won’t be relegated (and no team promoted either). This also means a C rated team who finished 7th (for example) would not be relegated. There will be no P&R that season if that was the case despite the C rated teams being eligible for the drop.

Except it’s B rated not C, my mistake. You can’t get relegated if you are an A but can if you are a B if there is a club rated A outside of SL or a team outside SL who got a B rating but with more points than a B rated team who are currently in SL.

Keighley objected because that means in theory they could finish top of the Championship but a team like London or Toulouse could finish 4th or whatever and once all teams are reassessed end up as a B team with more points than a B team in SL and thus be promoted when Keighley didn’t get enough points to be a B team (they are a C team).

They also said once every team in SL is an A rated team it becomes a closed shop but that isn’t true. If there were 12 A rated teams and London in the Championship got an A, they would be promoted to a 13 team SL.

I can only assume Keighley think they will never get to A status and object to not being promoted if they win their league because surely they must understand how it all works.
