Women’s Challenge Cup Group opponents named

Post by josie andrews »

The draw for the Betfred Women’s Challenge Cup Group Stages took place live on BBC Radio Merseyside this evening, with Wigan drawn to play against Cardiff Demons, Salford Red Devils and Barrow Raiders in Group 2.

Wigan reached the Semi Finals of the competition last season after going unbeaten in the Group Stages, where they faced Salford Red Devils, Cardiff Demons and Featherstone Rovers. They beat Huddersfield Giants 46-10 at the Quarter Final stage at Robin Park Arena to set up a Semi Final tie away at Headingley Stadium against Leeds Rhinos. A hard fought Semi Final saw Wigan narrowly defeated by the Rhinos who progressed to Wembley Stadium.

Wigan will face two familiar faces in the group stages of the competition as they get set to face Cardiff Demons and Salford Red Devils for a second year running. They will also face Barrow Raiders, who are coached by 2018 Grand Final winning Head Coach of the Warriors, Amanda Wilkinson.

The Final will once against take place at Wembley Stadium in 2024, as part of a triple-header of games on Saturday 8 June with Wigan eager to get that one step further this season.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
