Then we appeal on the basis that the offence was not committed in a WCC or International match.
The precedent was set in 1994 when we played the Broncos in Brisbane.
When we arrived it was discovered that Andrew Gee would not be playing as he was mid way through an eight match ban. However the Broncos had appealed saying the game was in a League game (ARL-NRL) and not an International game and the ban should not apply to the Wigan match.
The Broncos won the appeal and Gee played against Wigan.
So, should the RFL ban a Wigan player against Penrith then we should appeal on the same basis as the Broncos.
It will be interesting to see if the RFL support Wigan as the Australian authorities supported the Broncos.
If a Wigan player gets banned for the WCC!

Great post Ted
Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

FAscinating stuff.
If Harry IS banned then do we go Farrimond or Hampshire?
If Ellis is banned then Chan comes in?
Think Hill will come in for Thompson.

It’s something that should’ve been changed permanently years ago. It’s the same with players missing internationals, like Williams in the Tonga series. That Williams ban only goes to prove there will be no leniency from the disciplinary and I fully expect us to be without Smith and Ellis.

I am sure the Australian authorities were happy to comply with that defence so Gee could play but why do you think because they did that it would be any basis for an appeal by Wigan? It’s not the law where precedent applies.Wiganer Ted wrote: ↑Sat Feb 17, 2024 10:21 pm Then we appeal on the basis that the offence was not committed in a WCC or International match.

It was also then, it was the Australian authorities whereas this is now and it is the RFL we are talking about.
If any Wigan player is banned the only grounds for appeal will be the usual ones of he wasn’t really guilty or the tackle doesn’t deserve the length of ban dished out. If any ban is more than one match it won't be worth appealing to try and have them available for the WCC because they won’t reduce a two or more match ban to zero.
We just have to hope they deem the on field sanctions enough punishment.
If a player is banned and can’t play in the WCC then of course the WCC game will count to working off the ban.
It would be a real shock if they banned a Wigan player but said he could play in the WCC.
Re: If a Wigan player gets banned for the WCC!
Our best shot would be to arrange a reserves friendly the day before and serve the ban in that.

I feel that we need to get used to waiting for monday evening to see how our team can be picked for the next fixture i hope that these new rules do not spoil our game but the jury is out

Mason Lino got a 3 match ban last week from the Challenge Cup against Siddal but played today in the 1895 cup today.
