Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Warriors progress in Women’s Nines

WIGAN WARRIORS WOMEN BOOKED THEIR SPOT IN THE WOMEN’S NINES FINALS DAY, TO BE HELD ON SATURDAY 27TH JULY, AFTER WINNING THREE OUT OF THREE GAMES IN THE GROUP STAGES.

Game One: Wigan Warriors 16-4 Huddersfield Giants.

The Warriors started the day with a three-try win over Huddersfield Giants. Anna Davies, Ellise Derbyshire and Jenna Foubister all crossed for four-point tries, with Isabel Rowe converting two.

Huddersfield responded through Amy Bennett but Denis Betts side took the two points in the opening game.

Game Two: Wigan Warriors 32-11 London Broncos.

It was a much more rampant attack for the Warriors in game two against London Broncos. Four point tries came courtesy of Grace Banks, Cailey Miller and Emma Welsford whilst Wigan also got their first two five-point tries of the afternoon – Mary Coleman and Isabel Rowe the scorers.

Isabel Rowe also added three conversions alongside two conversions for Jenna Foubister to make it two from two.

Game Three: Wigan Warriors 18-4 Salford Red Devils.

Wigan sealed top spot in the group with a third consecutive win on the afternoon, this time over Salford Red Devils.

Wigan raced in for two early five-point tries from Emma Welsford and Jenna Foubister before Salford responded with an unconverted four-point try. A second half score for Wigan from Maddison Higson was enough to see us unbeaten in the qualifiers and progress to the finals day.

The Warriors progress to the finals day on Saturday 27th July alongside York Valkyrie, St Helens and Cardiff Demons. Further details – including two wildcard picks to be announced in due course.
