Peet previews Huddersfield

* Matt Peet previews Saturday’s Betfred Super League clash at Huddersfield Giants.

* Peet: “It’s going to be tough which means we’ll have to be good as Huddersfield will challenge us.”

* Tickets for the fixture are available to purchase online HERE.

MATT PEET SPOKE TO THE PRESS AHEAD OF SATURDAY’S BETFRED SUPER LEAGUE ROUND 11 CLASH AGAINST HUDDERSFIELD GIANTS.

The Warriors travel to the John Smith’s Stadium off the back of a home win against Catalans Dragons last time out in an impressive team performance at both ends of the field.

Liam Farrell scored his 150th career try in the victory, and on the Club captain, Peet said: “Liam’s a quality player and an outstanding professional who we are very proud to call our captain.

“He’s low maintenance, high performance, and he’s deserved every one of those 150 career tries. He’s everything you want in an elite professional I would say.”

Luke Thompson crossed for his first Wigan try in Thursday night’s win at the DW Stadium, and on the forward’s impact since arriving at the Club, Peet said: “It’s been a great start to his Wigan career – I’ve been impressed. Luke’s settled in really well with the lads and the coaching staff like him. So far so good for Luke at Wigan.”

Huddersfield head into Saturday’s fixture off the back of two narrow defeats – losing by a point to St Helens in Round 9 before they were beaten by two at home to Salford Red Devils last time out.

On the Giants, Peet said: “They’re a good team who even in defeat have been very consistent. From a coaching point of view they’re good to watch because they’re a well-prepared and well-coached team who stick to their system.

“You can see they’re on a journey of trying to play a certain way, and we’ve got a lot of respect for them. We’ve had some great contests over the years and I think this weekend will be another close game.”

On Huddersfield’s attacking threat, which includes Super League’s top try scorer Adam Swift, Peet added: “They challenge you with outstanding shape, and they’re very talented alongside their willingness to work hard – a trademark of Huddersfield. It’s going to be tough which means we’ll have to be good as Huddersfield will challenge us. They don’t give you much as they make you work and earn it.”

On the Warriors defence, Peet added: “We have our defensive systems. If a team like Huddersfield try to create something you want to either make them work really hard for it or it should have to be a really special piece of play. Hopefully that doesn’t happen.”

Tickets for Saturday’s clash at the John Smith’s Stadium remain on general sale from the DW Stadium Ticket Office and online HERE.

Full ticket information, including entry details to the Women’s clash (12pm K.O.) can be found HERE.

When I went to Huddersfield some years ago, I recall there was some kind of clubhouse a short walk from the ground (the other side of a big main road?), where we went for a drink before the game. It almost looked more like a cricket club? And you could park there in this cul-de-sac. Is this still going, does anyone know?

I remember a bar actually on the side of the ground that was decent and theres also the Yorkshire rose pub which is across the main road. Not sure about the cricket club one even though ive been there about 10 times. We are going early with the grandaughter and still debating where to get a beer pre game but parking is usually dead easy to the north east direction of the away end

I'm contemplating getting the bike out if the weather's half-decent, but of course it's driveable. Haven't got a ticket yet, but that should hardly be necessary for Huddersfield.

J25? Gets you to the Leeds Road?

Found the place I was thinking of, but it seems unclear as to whether it's still open.

If I was coming from wigan I'd come off at Ainley Top (j24), aim for brighouse (a643) and then take grimescar road, which turns into Halifax old road. It brings you out at the slubbers arms, go straight over the junction, under the bridge and you'll have the Yorkshire rose pub on your left and leeds Road right in front of you.

Wakefield road, if you're coming off j25, can be an absolute car park, and leeds rd is pot luck for temporary traffic lights these days.
