Hull FC secure loan deal for Wigan Warriors forward ahead of London Broncos trip

The Black and Whites have secured their latest loan signing of the season.

Hull FC have completed a short-term loan deal for Wigan Warriors forward Tiaki Chan. Rugby League Live can reveal the 23-year-old will be in Simon Grix's 21-man squad for Sunday's trip to London Broncos after the Black and Whites secured a short-term loan arrangement.

Chan is a new signing at the DW Stadium after arriving from Catalans Dragons and has found first-team playing opportunities limited so far this season, making just two appearances. But he will now benefit from a spell at the MKM Stadium, with Hull moving quickly to replace Ed Chamberlain, who has been recalled by his parent club, Leigh Leopards.

Theoretically, Chan may only play one game for the club. The club's only game in the initial two-week period is against the Broncos, with the Black and Whites without a game next week as the Challenge Cup semi-finals will be played. However, he will give Grix a much-needed option in the back-row.

Wigan boss Matt Peet admitted last week that Chan could head out on loan after playing for the club's reserves at the weekend. He scored as they defeated Hull KR's reserves 44-0.

Speaking to Wigan Today, Peet said: “In that 18, 19, 20, 21 members of the squad, you want to have cover across a range of positions

For example this week, Harvie Hill is the cover for the front-row, Sam Walters for the back-row, Ryan Hampshire for the spine positions and Zach Eckersley for the back-line.

“Even to make those cover positions, there’s competition. I think Tiaki understands that. He’s going to play for the reserves at the weekend and it might be moving forward, he plays a couple of weeks out on loan to get the game time he needs and to work his way back into our squad.

“It’s all about being the best prepared you can be and looking to improve every week as a player. If you’re going to improve by playing reserve grade or out on loan, to show that you’re ready for that first-team opportunity when it comes, then so be it.”

Castleford Tigers secure loan return of Wigan Warriors forward after injury

The prop will look to make his debut for the Tigers after missing out last time.

Castleford Tigers will be hoping to see Sam Eseh debut at the second time of asking, with the Wigan Warriors prop returning to the club on a fresh loan deal. Rugby League Live can reveal Eseh is set for another stint at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle after joining Cas on a short-term loan.

The towering forward had initially joined the Tigers last month, but he was forced to pull out of the club's victory over London Broncos after suffering a hamstring complaint in the captain's run. He was subsequently not risked in the draw against Leigh Leopards last week.

But he will be available for selection this week when Craig Lingard's side host St Helens. The Tigers are looking to go three matches unbeaten for the first time since July 2022. Castleford are currently tenth in Super League having won two and drawn one of their opening ten games this season.

Eseh is a new signing at Wigan after joining the club from Wakefield Trinity in the off-season. The 20-year-old, who is 6ft 4, has played 14 Super League games in his career while he caught the eye when playing in the Championship for Featherstone Rovers. He has yet to make his Wigan debut after a pre-season injury ruled him out of the opening rounds of the season.

Eseh is one of two players being loaned out this week by the Super League champions, with Tiaki Chan heading to Hull FC on a short-term deal.
