That the same Toronto Wolfpack that didn’t pay its players or suppliers?

Yea that was a really great business model indeed I’ll start a team not pay anyone and see how long I last simple truth it won’t as for New York well to me it was just words with little to back up with any meaningful.

One thing with this jolly up to me is why? The way the NRL bigged it up a few months back it was a closed shop no chance of brits but now here we are I suspect it wasn’t the huge money maker and need the English contingent and sky to offset the cost just my thoughts on it though let’s be fair the Aussies won’t even send the national team unless it’s under sufferance now all of a sudden we are big buds like I say odd.

Regardless of what I think of this what are IMG doing for the sport other than taking a lot of money out the game I notice Karl Fitzpatrick has commented on them, must do better,I’d say do something anything for the money they take out the sport

I just fail to see what's in it for SL, and for Wigan and Warrington in particular. Other than as a jolly, of course. I don't understand why KR is so keen.

Christ I’m not even going to read the rest of this thread I got a few pages in and the amount of whinging is ridiculous. It’s one game in a season. It’s a shame if you can’t afford to go but for those that can it’s a great thing. If this is what’s your moaning about you need to get a grip and a life. Far worse things going on in the world than a Wigan Warrington game not being played in Wigan.

It's true that Torontos owner had financial issues at the end of the COVID season. As the mining market recovered and boomed shortly afterwards I doubt that would have continued longer term.

However without individual investors, where does the money for the growth of the game come from? Name a club that's profitable enough to spin off an expansion side in super league. Growing the game equals attracting investment and the US had massive potential to do that as there is massive opportunity here. But that was killed by taking the temporary financial issues of one investor and using them to outlaw all foreign teams. Which was justified as there being no potential short or medium term in the US market BTW, so what's changes there!

The RFL have no problem with Perez starting a team in Cornwall despite your concerns on his financial standing - clearly judging the potential in the South West of England as a greater opportunity than the whole of the north american continent. Its certainly just as far away in practice! Why don't we take a Wigan Warrington game to Truro?

Mike it was well documented by Jon Davidson that Toronto where having issues with payment as early as 2018 I think their lawyers sued them for non payment it was a case of the emperors new clothes with Toronto and it was always going to fail,I’m not sure what role Perez had though once they where up and running he exited very early on and bought Hemel Hempstead pro licence and that’s where the issues started and maybe he saw it coming I don’t know I note he has or is leaving Cornwall now I wonder where he will end up.

The Wolfpack was doomed because how the hell can our sport afford flights to Canada most clubs can barely afford coaches to the other side of the Pennines it was always doomed, and again if his finances recovered why the hell weren’t the players paid?

They were shut down by the RFL and SL before any recovery could take place. I'm no suprised he's leaving cornwall if that's true because whoever advised him to invest there was seriously weird. A tiny market, miles from anywhere.

Your point about not currently being able to afford flights to Canad is true. However if you've got billionaires with money to fund in the short term and a market that can potentially give them a return on that investment in the medium term then they will potentially do it. A market the size of north america has huge potential, even if the sport is a very minor player in the overall sports market. It simply doesn't have that potential in many places in the UK. The market is more saturated with extremely long estabilshed teams in other sports and fans in general are not as willing to adopt new teams or sports as they are in the US and Canada. The only other expansion location outside the UK that is officially allowed is one more team in France. After that, its a closed shop geographically.

We're arguing the same thing here about Vegas being pointless, but from different standpoints. I think there is huge potential in a market like north america, but there is no point in doing one-off events here with no long term plan because exploiting this market has already been ruled out. You think there's no future here. Either way the Vegas event is pointless.

But it will be fun to attend for those that can!

Without trawling through all the posts in the forum, I'm not sure if this question has already been asked. If we win the grand final this season, when will the world club challenge take place. If the Oz champions insist on the game being played in their own back yard, where would that fit in with the schedule now with the game in Vegas part of the calendar as well. Apologies if this has already been covered.

WCC is being played here. I thought they said that it would be played the week after the Vegas swannee.
Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

The WCC should alternate, It should be be played every other year in Australia/NZ. Why is it so hard to sort that out?
