ithink you should look at this years income not last year they got over£20,000000 for getting in prem plus tv money,i think that would put them in a better position with the bank than ANY team in the rugby league. :o

How much extra are they paying in salaries? Premier league players will be demanding premier league salaries as well, so just because they got a lot more money doesn't mean that their other costs have also gone up by a huge amount as well.

From that last bit you know more than me about the Latics players. I have no idea who they have signed since promotion, nor do I know how many players have had their contracts renegotiated since promotion, and from what I read in the newspapers that renegotiation is something that goes on almost constantly. Without being at all interested enough to go and search through news archives, I think it very likely that players like Camara and Roberts will have negotiated salaries that are appropriate for the Premiership, otherwise they may well already have gone elsewhere to get more money. Contracts seem to have even less worth in soccer than in RL, with things like Liverpool FC's manager signing a new contract recently until 2010 because his previous contract "only" ran until 2008. We're bearing into 2006 yet it was deemed necessary either by him or the club to renegotiate his contract that still had 2 years to go. Players often get sold if they wait until the final year of their contract before opening negotiations (Patrick Viera at Arsenal). Hence my speculation that many of the Latics players might have renegotiated their contracts following promotion to a level more fitting their peers in the division.

Aren't we forgetting that Big Dave built the JJB regardless of our intent to stay at Central Park and go it alone. Whether we like it or not D.W and the Latics had the vision to move to the JJB, with or without us ! I personally think D.W's vision is all around the football team and it's almost as if he has a sympathy vote for us. He won't stop until the Latics get into Europe and win some major silverware. So we better get used to it !!!

And perhaps you're also forgetting that DW had fully intended to rebuild our old home and turn it into another state-of-the-art stadium to go alongside the JJB, but when others blocked that idea then he brought us to the JJB rather than have the team play outside of Wigan? He could, at that point, have said "I don't want anything to do with this rugby club, you obviously don't want me" but he didn't. He didn't have to take over Wigan RLFC.

He's put a lot of money into our club, we've had top international players here (irrespective of whether they performed for us or not), we've got the man many said was the best coach in Superleague, we've got a much higher quality training environment than our Grand Final winning team in 1998 were allowed, and we've had public assurances within the last few days that he is still committed to the club and to putting his money into the club. What more can he do to reassure people?

And, significantly, John Martin, recently added to the board of directors, supported Whelan against the "Tesco clique" of Rathbone & Robinson.

Just found something out that could upset a few people. Wigan RL have been trying to find somewhere for the players to warm up before any home games. Funny the football can carry on warming up on the pitch but the rugby have to warm up outside then walk to the ground! I think something fishy is going on.

Thats been going on ages, it happened last year too. I don't know why but it can't have anything to do with Latics, it's probably just a preference for the players who knows! But they were doing it last year and then coming back to train on the pitch for a few minutes before the game.
