Peet: Big achievement

Post by josie andrews »

* Matt Peet has given his thoughts following Thursday’s result

* Peet: “We’ve got big games to come which we’ll start talking about on Monday but it’s important we don’t brush over this as it’s a big achievement.”

* FT | Wigan Warriors 64-0 Salford Red Devils.

MATT PEET PRAISED THE WHOLE CLUB AS WIGAN WARRIORS BEAT SALFORD RED DEVILS TO LIFT BACK-TO-BACK LEAGUE LEADERS’ SHIELDS.

The Warriors scored 11 tries to defeat the Red Devils 64-0 at The Brick Community Stadium which sealed successive shields for the first time in the Club’s history.

Speaking to the press at full-time, Peet said: “I’m proud of the group and our staff. We’ve got big games to come which we’ll start talking about on Monday but it’s important we don’t brush over this as it’s a big achievement. I’m proud to lead this group.”

On his squad: “It’s a credit not just to the 17 that played tonight, but the ones who have played a part all season. We have some whose season has been ended through injury and we have some who don’t get picked because they’re young lads coming through the pathway. It’s a credit to everyone at the Club.”

On winning back-to-back League Leaders’ Shields for the first time in the Club’s history, Peet said: “From a Club point of view we will celebrate this in terms of imagery on the walls, saying thank you and enjoying tonight. We can’t party to hard and everyone in there is thinking about coming into work on Monday morning as there’s still bigger games to come.”

Praising Harry Smith, who became a father last weekend, Peet said: “Harry’s been brilliant this week, he hasn’t even missed much training. He’s come in with a massive smile on his face and you can tell he’s super proud. Harry’s got a big family who are ingrained in the Club so it means a lot to all of us.

Speaking on the schedule ahead of the semi-final, Peet said: “We will train Monday, we’re off Tuesday, and then we’re going away for a three day camp in this country. We have to train smart whilst getting some hard work done – it’s about finding that balance.”

Wigan Warriors will play in the Betfred Super League play-off semi-final at The Brick Community Stadium on Saturday 5 October (5:30pm K.O.). Tickets are available now to season ticket holders with non-season ticket holder seats also available for general sale. Full ticket information can be found HERE.

Smith: Whirlwind week

* Harry Smith described his ‘whirlwind week’ as he became a father before lifting the League Leaders’ Shield.

* Smith: “It’s been a whirlwind of a week. To win the League Leaders’ was the cherry on top of the cake.”

* Ticket information for our Betfred Super League play-off semi-final is available HERE.

HARRY SMITH HAS DESCRIBED A ‘WHIRLWIND WEEK’ WHICH STARTED WITH BECOMING A FATHER AND ENDED WITH BACK-TO-BACK LEAGUE LEADERS’ SHIELDS.

Harry, and his partner Chloe, welcomed baby Leo into the world less than 24 hours after the Warriors beat Leeds Rhinos at The Brick Community Stadium.

Reflecting on a special week, Smith said: “It’s been a whirlwind of a week trying to get sleep, but I managed a lie in yesterday morning which was nice. It’s been an amazing experience becoming a father and I’ve really enjoyed the first week which is a credit to my partner, Chloe. To get on the right side of the result tonight and win the League Leaders’ was the cherry on top of the cake.”

Speaking through his preparation for the clash against the Red Devils, Smith said: “I spoke to Matty about coming in a bit earlier to do my gym work as there was still an important game to prepare and train for. It was nice to a part of the game as well as the whole week. When you get nights like tonight in the way we played and celebrated with our fans and families, it makes it all worth it.”

On lifting successive League Leaders’ Shields, Smith said: “We spoke this week about how this Club hadn’t achieved back-to-back League Leaders before so to be able to add a further bit of history on top of what we’ve already achieved this year is amazing. We just want to keep creating and experiencing these moments with our teammates.”

Looking towards the week ahead, Smith said: “We’ll be going on a three day camp next week for some good, solid training and team bonding. We won’t be resting on our morals as we’ll be putting in the work but a week without a game is always nice on the body. Hopefully we’ll be fresh and able to put our best foot forward in the semi-finals.”

Tickets for our Betfred Super League play-off semi-final on Saturday 5 October (5:30pm K.O.) – opponents tbc – are available now to season ticket holders with non-season ticket holder seats also available for general sale. Full ticket information can be found HERE.
