MATT PEET HAS LOOKED AHEAD TO SATURDAY’S BETFRED SUPER LEAGUE ROUND 5 TIE AGAINST LEEDS RHINOS AT AMT HEADINGLEY STADIUM, IN ASSOCIATION WITH GREENMOUNT PROJECTS.
Reflecting on the Challenge Cup loss to Hull FC last Saturday, Peet said: “It was a difficult one to take. It’s important to acknowledge it and learn but we can’t dwell and we’ve got to move on. There were some lessons learnt for all of us.
“As I said after the game, Hull deserve a lot of credit, we look at ourselves and where we can improve but Hull taught us a lesson on the day. In recent years, I think some of our best learnings have come out our most painful days and that was certainly one of them.”
The Warriors now return to Betfred Super League action, with Round 5 offering a tie away to Leeds Rhinos this Saturday afternoon. Looking ahead to the fixture, Peet said: “It’s felt like our first regular week for a while. Recovery was still high on the list but this week was business as usual really and hopefully we see the benefits on Saturday night.”
He added: “Both teams have enjoyed success throughout our histories, two passionate sets of fans, a great venue and it’s got the makings of a great game. I think Wigan v Leeds on a Saturday night is always a big one.
“I think Leeds have always have outstanding athletes particularly in the outside backs, they have a good skill set – big, fast, strong – but I think Brad’s [Arthur] put a real steel into them. It’s a tough game no doubt, but one we’re looking forward to.”
On the travelling support, the Head Coach said: “Our fans have been amazing all year, home and away. They’re one of the our major motivations and when they travel in the numbers they will be on Saturday, we want to give them a good day.”
Updating on injuries sustained in the Cup defeat, he said: “Adam [Keighran] was pretty confident that he’d done his MCL, so we need a little bit more feedback there – we’re expecting that it’s a few months. Jai’s [Field] had these sort of injuries before, so we have got some more appointments before we’ll be able to put a timeframe on it.”
The Warriors will also debut their Charity Third Kit this Saturday night against Leeds: “It’s the opportunity to wear our third kit for first time this week and that means a lot to us. We have a committed relationship to Wigan and Leigh hospice and everyone involved with that so, We’re hoping to do the shirt proud this Saturday.”

Peet previews Leeds
Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
