NRL in Salford takeover?

Got something to discuss about RL in general? Then this is the place to post it.

Oof, I can't see either part of that name going down well with Salford fans.

I can’t see it coming off but that is the way forward for Salford because if these new owners do arrive they won’t give a hoot about the rugby team

I'd like to think that the NRL could get involved with sorting SL out but I think it's unlikely that some of the established clubs would take the risk. If I was a savvy NRL club looking to invest in a SL side I certainly wouldn't pick Salford though. I'm a big fan of how the club has managed in recent years but I don't see any great potential in growing their fan base given the fact that they are so close to two huge premiership teams and a league two team that is still developing it's fan base. Perhaps a Salford Reds/Salford City ground share would have more potential. If an NRL club was looking primarily for a route to obtain and develop British talent to supply their NRL squad it could make sense but would be a very costly enterprise because I don't think the local fans would turn up to watch a feeder club.

The NRL obviously like the idea of a big-city team in Manchester, and Salford is Manchester near enough, if you're in Sydney. But the AJB isn't in Salford or even near it. And no doubt they think they've forced through mergers before in the NRL, which haven't always gone down well (is there not still a divide with Wests Tigers fans?).
