Seen some of the scores on X.
Looks like George Hirst scored three tries. Thats what they call taking your opportunity!
Interesting to see if he's in the 21 for Huddersfield never mind the 17.
Wade played, that didn't take long from his transfer from Union.

Reserves beat Castleford

*!Match Report as Wigan Warriors Reserves beat Castleford Tigers at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle.

* George Hirst scored a hat-trick as Christian Wade played his first minutes for the Club in the clash.

* FT | Castleford Tigers Reserves 10 - 56 Wigan Warriors Reserves.

WIGAN WARRIORS RESERVES SCORED SEVEN TRIES TO BEAT CASTLEFORD TIGERS AT THE MEND-A-HOSE JUNGLE.

Christian Wade made his first start in Cherry and White since joining from rugby union side Gloucester as first half tries from George Hirst (x2), Jack Farrimond and Kalum Rathbone saw the Warriors lead 22-0 at the break.

Hirst completed his hat-trick in the second half as further tries from Harvey Makin, Nathan Lowe, Declan Murphy and Farrimond gave the Warriors a heavy victory at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle.

Report

Having survived multiple Castleford attacks in the early stages, the Warriors opened the scoring when a repeat set deep inside the Tigers half led to Hirst powering over after Kerr was initially held up through the middle. Farrimond’s kick from out wide rebounded off the wrong side of the post.

The Warriors widened the points difference seven minutes later when Hirst broke free through the middle before displaying enough pace to get away from the covering defender to score his second next to the sticks. Farrimond added the extras to give Wigan a 10-0 lead.

Farrimond added a third Wigan try on 22 minutes when Lowe’s initial offload to Wade allowed the debutant to accelerate deep inside the Castleford half before an inside pass sent his half-back over. Farrimond converted the additional points to make the score 16-0.

The Warriors made use of a fresh set in a dangerous position when Tom Forber’s short pass allowed Rathbone to crash over next to the sticks. Farrimond added the two points to give Wigan a 22-0 lead at the interval.

Having scored two minutes before the break, the Warriors crossed for a fifth minutes after the restart when Makin outmuscled the Castleford defence to ground the ball to the right of the posts. Farrimond made no mistake with the kick to widen the points difference further.

The home side scored their first points of the contest with 47 minutes on the clock when Daniel Sarbah’s offload allowed Andy Djeukessi to acrobatically ground in the corner. The score remained at 28-4 after Kai Taylor-Smith’s kick flashed wide.

The Warriors scored twice in four minutes to hit 40 points when first Hirst powered over on the right side to complete his hat-trick before a quick attacking move resulted in Lowe crossing in a similar position. Farrimond added each kick in between Wade being replaced.

Shortly after Djeukessi scored his second of the match in the corner, the Warriors added an eighth try when a Castleford knock on led to Farrimond’s cut-out pass sending Murphy over on the far side.

The Warriors crossed twice in the final nine minutes through Farrimond and McDermott to take the two points back from the Mend-A-Hose Jungle.

Castleford Tigers: Kai Taylor-Smith, Alfie Lindsey, Will Tate, Daniel Sarbah, Andy Djeukessi, Corey Sharpe, Sonny Wall, Akim Matvejev, Ethan Newboult, Leo Skerrett Evans, Sam Grice, Sam Darley, Denver Millington.

More importantly, what was he like bringing the ball out early in sets, and what was his RL positioning like?

Just read a report saying he made a couple of early errors (dropped ball off a high kick, which is something I always think Union wingers struggle with),then assisted a try for Farrimond and went off after about an hour. It said he didn't get chance to take many carries in, which is something he'll need to pick up himself and make sure he's looking for work.

Glad you picked up on it 😊
I’d posted the score earlier before it was put on the main site.

I’ve left it as it is & been in touch with them again pointing out the error!

Are these the first signs that Hirst has something to offer for this or next season? I see he played in the backrow, somewhere where we need a signing or two. He seems to have played prop and backrow for Oldham. Is it time to give him a run in the first team?
