Animosity

Post by horsey »

I have noticed a bit of animosity on here toward the towns football club.
I am not from Wigan, and don't really care why there is this animosity.
The reason I am posting is to find out if the animosity goes both ways, as I am going as a guest of a friend to watch the match against Aston Villa tomorrow, and wondered if it will offend anyone if I went in my Wigan top.

Some peole support both clubs, I do. Very few here do not want the Latics to do well. However, if football threads are posted then they tend to be trolling by Latics fans with real issues so you tend to find the rule, no football posts works best.

The Club used to have its own message board but it was destroyed by Latics supporters posting obscenities and pornographic images. They also abused elderly ladies like Nitsua.

You could go and watch a Saints v Wire game in a Wigan RL shirt and get friendly banter but I somehow don't think its a good idea to do the same at a latics game.

You may find the experience spoiled. I can't speak from experience and maybe my view is just from predudice against soccer fans in general (as opposed to latics fans in particular) but I would not do it.

I would concur with Dave O. The vast majority but also the more polite would say nothing / nor object. The minority who are very vocal would pass comment. There are a small group of Latics supporters who loathe the rugby club with a passion.

Thanks for your replies, I think I'll wear something less obvious than my team shirt, maybe a polo shirt under my jumper.
If I hear any anti Warriors chants I'll report back.

This is one of the message boards that seems to delight in having a pop at the rugby, although to be fair, they have been fairly well behaved in the past couple of weeks!

In recent weeks we've had trouble at the Rugby; both home and away ( just see some of the various posts ); so much so I don't think you'd be even safe to turn up at the Warriors in a Latics shirt.

So play safe and go to the Latics in a Saints shirt; they'll probably buy all your pies and ale !!!

Used to work with a latics fan who was born and bred in Wigan and yet he took great delight in coming into work after we'd been beaten.Absolutely hated the rugby and didn't have many good things to say about the fans either. Thank god he'd quit before this season.

Well, what can I say. My first visit to the JJB for a football match, and what a match.
I have heard all sorts of drivel from you so called Wiganers calling the Latics on this site, but all I can say to you all is, it must be jealousy.
The atmoshere was electric from start to finish with excellent banter between the Latics fans and the 1000 or so Villa fans.
There was no mention of the Warriors good or bad, and certainly no anti Warriors songs as I was lead to beleive there would be.
There was no hint of trouble before, during or after the match, wish we could say that after Warriors games.
The match itself was a super spectacle for English football, and was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.
If one or two of you anti Latics fans would take off your blinkers, I think you would be pleasantly suprised at what the Latics have to offer.
I was so impressed last night that I have already ordered my ticket for their last match of the season versus Portsmouth.
I hope I don't receive a tirade of abuse from you lot after this post, but I really thought you should all have an unbiased non Wiganers view on the subject instead of the same old rubbish being spouted by the anti Latics brigade on here.
I realise you may now ban me for daring to say something positive about the so called enemy, but that would only go to show the depth of your immaturity and jealousy of the Latics.
Surely you should be supporting all the teams in Wigan regardless of the colour of their shirts, afterall we haven't been entertained yet with the Warriors this season apart from the comedy value.
