Hanley, I'd say for sheer entertainment value alone. But that was when Wigan were the only professional team in the league. Farrell played most of his playing career on an even pitch so to speak, when all the Super League teams were professional. Hanley could not pass a ball to save his life but most of the time he didn't have to, he could see the opposition try line from anywhere on the pitch and his "backing up" was phenomenal, that is why he scored so many tries.

i cant really comment because i didnt see hanley play but farrell, when i saw him at the end of 2004 was a very, very good player. influencial and his presence was felt on the field. one of the best motivators i have seen play rugby in recent years. hanley, ive heard he was the best but i will see more footage first :D

Andy Farrell and yes I have seen Hanley on alot of Videos. Farrell just had that certain determination in every single game. He was really a one man club and he possibly moved to Sarries at the right time.

Anyone who says Faz has oviously not seen Hanley live he was by far the best player i have ever seen in a Wigan shirt yes he had good players around him but i can remember him single handly taking on the Aussies at Wembley in about 1991.He was the best player John Monie coached in this country according to his book so that says something.

Spot on! I remember Hanley forgetting the club in the last game at Central Park but as a player no comparison, Hanley like Billy Boston would have been outstanding in any era they played in however much other players or the game around them changed. As the old saying goes, form is temporary, class is permanent. I'd add a certain Brett Kenny to that list as well, my biggest regret over a 48 year Wigan watching career is not seeing more of Kenny.
