Didn't Koloi play fullback?

We have been spoilt for fullbacks in recent times. Rads was probably the best fullback in the world at his peak. Briscoe also began his career with us. Other than these two and Ashton, who else have we had at fullback since the famously rubbish doc?

Withers was man of the match when Bradford beat us in the grand final and whilst he has aged a bit since then, he is far from the worst player in the squad. It would be nice if he scored more tries - however his versatility is something we need in the current salary cap dominated era

Versus Saints and Leeds where was this great tackling fullback? Roby made him look stupid as did others. My thought was we know Ashton can be poor in defence BUT he is no different. Worse, he offers nothing in attack. Worst fullback since Doc Murray is true. Think about it and whom we have had in that position.

Nobby made an error signing Withers and Millard. You never sign players over the hill. Worst still, supporters standards have slipped, you now accept mediocrity in the shirt.

Spot on, however as I said earlier Ashton should be our current first choice Full Back. He owes the fans for his 'mistakes' and I think Nobby should give him the chance to repay us.

We currently dont have a FB capable of supporting the clean breaks we make on a regular enough basis.

That composure under pressure is exactly what we have missed in the past couple of season and, IMO, is the reason Nobby brought him in. He is versatile, class, an "old head" and composed enough not to chuck points away by trying "miracle" plays. Remember how many games we lost from apparently winnable positions when we have had injuries and had a lot of "kids" in.

And may I say that is the best spelling of "dawdle" I've ever come across - looks much more like its meaning than the correct version, if you see what I mean!

morning teacher
Gawd, I'd only be prepared to consider being a teacher is the salary were £1m a year and you were allowed to take a shotgun into class - especially if you were in it!

Paul Koloi played centre. He was supposedly the new Kevin Iro. What does it matter if we have been spoiled. That should be the standard. Since Sullivan we have had great fullbacks. In Martin Ryan we practically invented the modern fullback. I modern rugby league, nos 1, 6, 7, 9 and 13 are the key players. We have an invalid at 1. Forget what he did in the past, he is now over the hill.

We don't have much choice because the RFL have accepted mediocrity as a price for a level playing field.

Who would you suggest that we play at fullback? I doubt that Withers is on a king's ransom.

Don't forget that Moran covered at Fullback during Millward's reign of (t)error - surely you are not suggesting that Withers is worse than him?

Bearing in mind who he has to follow - namely Rads and Briscoe it's not a surprise that you aren't a big of fan of Withers - saying that he is the worst fullback since Murray is like saying Dallas was the worst winger since Robinson.

Your right Matthew, the fullbacks we have had are all great fullbacks. Hence my Doc Murray comment was serious and obviously relates as much to the quality we have had. Personally, I would never have signed Withers and Millard. I would have kept Melling. We would have had extra money and maybe have been able to offer Ashton a better contract and certainly have been able to sign the England U16s halfback, Leatherbarrow.
