Salford should re-brand as Manchester Whatevers and that would make sure they get a franchise.

Hi guys

Just a point that was raised on rlfans. Assuming that Salford will be given a franchise in 2009 (only team in Manchester and a new stadium etc) what will be the point in relegating them if they finish bottom this year?
Because next year is 2008 not 2009.
Their squad will have to be disbanded due to the NL1 salary cap meaning they will have to start all over again in 2009. Surely this would weaken the competion and could result in Salford taking a few years to become competitive again. Just wondered what everyones thoughts were on this?
Well the negative effects of relegation are well known to many on here who were scared stiff we would face the drop for those reasons last time around as opposed to any sporting loss of face.

The thing is the rules are in place so that the winners of the NL1 GF will expect to be promoted. So not relegating Salford would mean enlarging the league and there is no way the other SL clubs are going to vote to do that as it would mean dividing the Sky money cake further.

You mean Richard Lewis, the Chairman of the RFL. He was a tennis player, a tennis coach and director of tennis in the UK.

i still beleive the wAY FORWARD IS A 14 TEAM STRUCTURE ,LEAVE SALFORD WERE THEY ARE ,PUT CAS UP(KEEP THEM QUIET)and promote the winners of nrl 1 probably widnes and you will then have all your franchise any way and a far league all play each other twice + all get a extra game at the milenium that means were 1 game short on this season. But i beleive the caRDIFF FIXTURE SHOULD BE DRAWN OUT OF A HAT
:eusa2:
And this leaves the league in the same position (geographically) as pre SL. This is not acceptable for Sky. They want/need to spread the game to sell more packages, hence the talk of Wales SL club, another London club etc. :conf:
