When he announced he was leaving and the "shirt" incident occurred I wanted rid - especially after the shirt incident.

When I calmed down I changed my view recognising his pace and attacking flair helped us stay up in 2006. THAT try at Leeds his break set up for Calderwood was a very classy bit of play from him.

I had hoped he would be professional enough to see out his last season as all pro players should in the last season of their contract. Professionally and giving 100%.

Had he done that then fine but he didn't.

For what ever reason his season went from bad to worse.

I think he realised he had screwed up over the shirt photo and for a while tried too hard to show he was going to play out his contract properly.

It didn't work and with a few mistakes and on-field tantrums. As the season has worn on it started to seem he had already played his last game for Wigan in Nobby's eyes long before any chance of a final fling at Wembley was on the cards.

Why this is we can only speculate. Perhaps Nobby decided trying to improve Ashton's game was a waste of effort on a player who was leaving not only the club but the sport. Perhaps Nobby wanted to invest him time with players remaining at the club.

It is also possible Ashton left Nobby little choice with a poor attitude. If so then he let his fellow professionals down and let the fans down. I have mentioned several times when contract discussions come up how Calderwood behaved at Leeds in his last season there. He gave 100% even though he was leaving.

If Ashton started out with that in mind and then gave up on the idea after a few set backs then he has shown his immaturity.

I also think were he staying he would not have come in for half as much stick as he has. He would still be in the young player learning the trade category so forgiven the odd blunder.

As it is he set himself up under the spotlight by deciding to leave and it looks like he could not handle it professionally for whatever reason.

So its a case of what might have been with Ashton as far as I am concerned. A talent to be nurtured has left the sport but he has taken a seemingly poor attitude with him so I doubt he will be missed regardless of his potential.

1st bold point - It was Mo's decision to kick him out, not his. In fact, I think if it was up to him,l then he would be staying until the end of the season.

2nd bold point - Not only does it show imaturity, it shows that he gives up far too easily.

I am saying good luck Chris and I hope it works out well for him.

Goodbye Chris, and thanks for your two seasons here.
Well said!
i just wish he had played out the rest of the season and said a proper goodbye to the fans, instead of just going out the back door.

Whatever has happened behind the scenes, IMO he has still been a credit to our team, and we can't forget what he did for us last season especially.

That has not got anything to do with what I posted. I did not say he left as opposed ot Mo kicking him out but that he had not seen his contract out with a professional attitude. Had he behaved professionally maybe Mo would not have kicked him out.

His play has been poor this season. He has not been a credit to anyone least of all the team.

Add to that the shirt incident how you can post he has been a credit to the team is beyond me.

Sorry DaveO.

I don't know about that bottom bit though DaveO about him behaving proffessionally (spelling?) that he would have stayed.

Just look at what Mo, said about him today, those comments say that Mo wanted him out.

Mind you, Mo gives the impression that Chris was dying to leave for RU.

I don't think I'll ever believe Mo again though.

If he was playing well and he was spot on with training and attitude he would not be leaving simple as that , I agree with Dave O on this the shirt thing left a bitter taste , for last season thanks , on the strength of helping us stay up I can manage a good luck for the future.

There is two separate issues. Who wanted him out and how he behaved this season with respect to how he played.

My point was he has not behaved very professionally for a professional RL player in how he has applied himself to the game and how he performed. He didn't seem to improve the obvious weakness in his game - his defence and then add to that shirt thing was pretty appalling and he hasn't exactly gone out all guns blazing doing his level best for the team.

That is regardless of who wanted out, himself, Mo or Nobby.

If we had got to Wembley and was in thw 18 regularly do you think he would want to leave? I don't but now I suspect he isn't interested in helping the team with respect to the playoffs even if injury means Nobby owuld use him again.
