Aww, all them years ago hehe, (only tormenting)

Need better directions than that! You talking to some one who gets lost in there own house!
If you know Wigan town centre it's easy, but if you don't.
Past JJB Stadium on your right, keep going over mini roundabout, through traffic lights (car showroom on your left), keep going untill next main set of lights, turn right and keep going untill you are almost in town centre, the school is on your left hand side just brfore you hit town.
I know you are from St Helens just like me and thats the way i would go.
That's a long way round! At the Saddle junction (Asda on your left) carry straight on towards town centre. past Seven Stars pub, over canal bridge, turn 1st left, left again at crossroads, under railway bridge follow road round to the right. At top of road (Prescott St) turn right and the school is 20 yds along on the left.
It's not a long way round if you are travelling from St Helens, the way you descibed geoff i would never head in that direction on match days, i come in through Billing, left at the Railway pub (pemberton) through the lights, at the t junction (mini roundabout) turn right and go past montroes school and pub, main traffic lights (jjb ahead) turn left, over mini roundabout, through next lights, at next main set of lights turn right keep going down that road and the school is on your left, easy peasy.
I gave those directions in view that Nobbys girl may not be familiar with Wigan town centre as she lives in St Helens.

Deanery High School
My alma mater.

You always used to get some interesting smells in the schoolyard - diesel from the trains from the West Coast main line that went down one side of the playground and, depending on the direction of the wind, the cattle market on the corner of Prescott Street and Frog Lane or the smell of Uncle Joes Mint balls from the Santus Factory on Dorning Street.

The chippy opposite (The Great British Invention?) used to do fantastic pasties at lunch time.

Guess he's long retired now but does anyone know how Derek Hurst, the history teacher, is doing. He was a rugby fanatic. I used to see him occasionally at Central Park when I returned home for matches so last time I saw him must have been 10-15 years ago

Apologies for being a bit O/T

Dont know about that. I'm 39. Used to go to Bluecoat Junior and Infants so remember all the houses where the car park and TGWU are. There also used to be a sweet shop on the corner of Dorning St/Frog lane from what I remember.

There did indeed! Old Mrs. Williams! Sold single ciggies with a match!

Funny, I thought it was longer ago than that when they were all pulled down! My memory must be going!
