Its the design of the stadia....

lack of sunlight (when we actually get it in wigan).

lack of air circulating also!

many will say "well similar stadia dont have those probs as much". but they have the technology!

'sunlight machines'!
Sorted, all we need to do is get Sean Long, Lee Briers, Stuart Cummings and Stevo to take up position in each of the stand and bend over.
After all, the sun shines out of their a***s

The JJB pitch is how pitches always were before football clubs started to spend money relaying pitches on a frequent basis. The only Premiership club that does not do so is Wigan Athletic :(

i thought real reason the pitch is bad cause it was built on a wasteland and whelan got told it was going cause concern but he didnt listen.

Just to correct you on one of your points. I was part of the Architectural team that drew up all the original plans for the whole regeneration of the Robin Park area. The original feasibility study was undertaken in about 1994/5, and was a small part of the Manchester Olympic Bid for the 2000 Olympic games.

The stadium has been built at a calculated angle to the arc that the Sun travels in across the sky. This was done so that the pitch will receive optimum sunlight (on the odd occasion that it shines) and also ensures the sun doesn't shine directly down the pitch into players eyes. It also took into account the direction of the prevailing winds.

The poor pitch is probably just down to the fact that Whelan is too tight to spend money on having a new pitch every few months and the fact that it has been shrouded under a blanket of black clouds and rain of near Biblical proportions since the end of last Summer, not that we had much of one.

Hope this gives you all something else to ponder over for the next few weeks until the real season starts.

Grass is growing in my gutters.
Grass is growing out of the poor pointing in my next door neighbours chimney.
Grass is growing out of the cracks in the flags on the pathway --------------
So why "o" why won't it grow on the JJB PITCH ????? :D :D :D

the pitch is built on a flood plain so therefore it will easily flood and be difficult to drain after a difficult period of rain. It obviously doesnt help that Whelan only has the pitch relayed once a year! For a dual sports pitch it should at least be relaid 3 times. But when do we have time? well we have several away games in febuary and england have a friendly, surely they can relay the pitch then? people may complain that it doesnt have time to bed in but the more it is played on the more it will bed in! It is annoying me how a percentage of latics fans are blaiming us Im sure they know that the last game wigan warriors played there was something around 14th September and the last time the rugby was played there was sometime in november! They need to look at the facts before placing blaim on anyone.
