Billy Blan was of a similar vintage to my Dad. I will ask my Dad about his memories of him. It would not surprise me if my Dad knew him, he seems to have known quite a few Wigan players of that generation.

RIP Billy and condolences to his family and friends.

I seem to remember Billy Blan and his brother jackie both playing for Wigan in the late 1940s and there may have been another blan during those days also getting an occasional run in the team can anyone confirm this. I remember a mid week cuptie against Barrow in pouring rain, when jackie blan began kicking the ball about the half way line and kept on kicking the ball and chasing it through the mud until he ended up scoring the only try of the game and putting us through to the next round.

My dad says they had a brother Albert who played for Swinton. Not sure if he ever played for Wigan.

I thought the minutes silence was impeccably observed, as it should be.

Condolences to his family.
