http://www.saintsrlfc.com/news/1068The Saints’ stadium plans have been signed off by St. Helens Council and sent to Government Office.
This follows extensive dialogue between the Council and Health and Safety Executive in Bootle who have now agreed that the Jackson Street gas-holder does not fall within the stadium consultation zone and a risk assessment will not be required to satisfy the HSE.
Council Leader Brian Spencer hailed the news as “tremendous,†adding: “It is now in the hands of the Government to consider the decision of St.Helens Council and enable the developer to get on with building the stadium.â€
On May 20 councillors gave a resounding thumbs up to the stadium. The triple planning application is from developer Langtree, retailer Tesco and housebuilder Taylor Wimpey plc.
The application, one of the biggest received by the Council, will bring a massive town centre regeneration.
It will transform the currently derelict 46-acre former United Glass site in St Helens into a £25-million 18,000 capacity stadium, with a mix of seating and standing, for St Helens Rugby League Club and a multi-million pound Tesco Extra.

Saints’ Stadium Plans Submitted To Government Office
Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Hope it goes through. A 14000 ish all seater would be better, as was pointed out they ain't going to get 18000 very often. They will be happy to get out of that dump
